I'll say this. Making stage 1 the long stage was a great choice by NASCAR. Green flag stops early when they are just drivin around. Full out racing in stages 2 and 3.

The fall of NASCAR is sad. It had so much momentum in the 90s and early this century. The stages and the changes they made ruined it. F1 has continued to grow globally. There is so much to like about stock car racing, but NASCAR fricked up.

Don't leave out the fact that NASCAR had been the communist stepchild of motorsport for a much longer than Bubba has been around. A driver goes out and fights tooth and nail for a 3-second lead, and the stewards start looking for a napkin to float onto the track so they can throw a caution and get everyone back to even.

If they wanted to make it a fair sport the cars that make it unscathed thru the crash should be way further ahead when racing starts again
