college gameday also needs to get away from sad stories 50% of the show
Hell, I'm a woman and I even get tired of that crap! Pump me up! Don't bring me down! Maybe every once in a while. How about instead just do interesting stories. I feel like ESPN is trying to get women to watch. If I'm a woman watching Gameday, that's not why I'm watching.

So do I. But going on location the way they do is certainly a more fun show! Although I understand going to the "big game" every week, it would probably be fun to go to some different schools that are doing well. Those student bodies might really enjoy it and it would be nice to see different places.

They are trying to grab the casual fan, not the fans who know who Arkansas has signed for 2025 recruiting class.
All their content is focused on a 7th grade level understanding of football so they can appeal to a broad audience base rather than make the hardcore fans happy.
That’s why they have Pat McAfee rather than Josh Pate because there is little substantive football analysis on Gameday and that’s been true for almost a decade.
Desmond Howard either doesn’t know Xs and Os or isn’t allowed to talk scheme, etc.
Kirk certainly knows football but he keeps it surface level.
Reese has the voice and the enthusiasm, but is the “host” rather than the color guy.
Lee is the mascot.
McAfee is the amp up the energy do sideshow entertainment guy as Lee has to step back due to health.
I can appreciate it as a tradition, but substantive content itself isn’t the attraction. It’s all about celebrating the Saturday spectacle that is college football while promoting the games on ESPN later.

quote:I agree with everything that you said before this comment. Everybody plays a part on that show, and personally speaking, I think Desmond just doesn't know what he's talking abut mostly.
