Hugh Green was recruited to Pitt by accident. Jackie Sherrill was recruiting Rooster Jones, a stud running back from Pascagoula, the Miss state champion, when they played North Natchez, where Green went to high school. He ended up getting them both.

Dorsett

Tony Dorsett changed the pronunciation of his name from DOR’-set to dor-SETT’ so that it would rhyme with Heisman. Most people don’t know that.

Actually, that was Joe Theismann. His name was pronounced “Theesman” beforehand. The Dorsett pronunciation change is correct, though.

lol. Most people don't know that DOR-set wore a single bar facemask and Lawrence Taylor sawed his leg in half. True story.

Dan Marino and Tony Dorsett are somehow underrated. Marino still has the quickest release and was the best purse passer in NFL history

Tony Dorsett was amazingly fast, and a HOFer

Larry Fitzgerald is one of the most decorated WRs in NFL history and another HOFer

Aaron Donald is one of the best Defensive Lineman to ever play.

The Pitt Panthers have a lot of great alumni to play in NFL.

You forgot two. Hugh Green & Rickey Jackson.

Yeah one year I'm watching Craig Ironhead Heyward in the Pitt mustard unis then the next year Pitt goes to this ridiculous gold helmet with the awkward panther thing.

ETA: Also thanks for posting Fitzgerald's jersey. Just as I suspected, the university wanted to get away from Pitt and write out Pittsburgh to align closer to the Steelers or whatever lame excuse they gave at the time.

More than that. I could have listed:
- Russ Grimm (OL “Hog”)
- Curtis “my favorite” Martin
- Darrelle Revis “Island”
- Mike “F—kin” Ditka
- Chris Doleman

Pitt has 11 alumni in the NFL HOF.

Historically a great program, but lost in the shuffle when CFB modernized.

Was Hugh Green an under the radar recruit?

Yes, Sherrill was watching tape of Rooster Jones when he noticed Green making all of the tackles.

Too bad they never got a new on campus stadium. I think your program loses juice having to play in an nfl stadium.

I’ll always root for Pitt thanks to shady McCoy upsetting wvu and sending LSU to the title game.
