They're different types of players. Jordan and Kobe were scorers Lebron is more like Magic and Bird where he leads his team by making the correct play. There's no reason to rank them 1 through 5 or 10 or whatever all of them made contending teams dominant teams so their affect on games were similarly great. Jordan is on a slightly higher level because he was not only the best offensive player but was equally great on defense where the rest aren't. I don't understand the Kobe hate though, 10 years ago the Lebron discussion was the exact same for Kobe and the guy was 5-2 in the finals.

Um, LBJ is no slouch on defense, ol' sport.

Fair or not, I believe it's that gear that will always keep Lebron on the outer edge of the 3.

Wait, you have Kobe ahead of LeBron?

I said as much during the time too. It was the first time I saw Lebron kick it into true closer gear.

Did you not see game 6 vs the Celtics or game 7 vs the Spurs? 2007 singlehandedly beating Detroit? No?

Lebron has way more huge playoff performances in big spots than Kobe, but don't let that get in the way of your narrative!!!

It's not hate, it's just properly rating him.

There is a way to argue Jordan is better than LeBron without hating on LeBron. The same is true for LeBron vs Kobe.

He also hit a three in that time to close the gap and give Allen a chance to even be able to tie it, but no one ever wants to talk about that

Pretty sure he also hit the game winner in OT with 1 minute left. Not to mention the shot to put it away in game 7...but who cares about those things, Kobe makes a mean face, that trumps everything!!!

That Matt Barnes gif, while cool, is overplayed. That ball is nearly a foot to Kobe's right when he fakes the pass.

No, that gif is the GOAT sports gif.

ETA:That's not sarcasm.

It's not hating on Kobe to say LeBron is better than him

In gif form, from that angle, I agree. In reality it's not AS good.

Def not a slouch but not the best in the league on d and hasn't been a lockdown man to man defender since his first stint in Cleveland.

Fair enough. He's more of a help defender, but he'll defend the best opposing player in crunch time as well as anyone.

In his peak, from about 2009-2012, he was the best on ball defender in the league. What he did to Paul Pierce and Derrick Rose in those playoff series was criminal.

Disagree Paul piece consistently lit him up and he never took Rose one on one for a game, they rotated him wade and chambers on rose to wear him down.

Yes I know it's a strange comparison but he is used a lot like Ewing was in New York. Oakley was the defender but Ewing was used to help and erase or cleanup anything that got by the defense. Lebron kinda does the same thing.

In the 2010 ECSF, he shut down Pierce for just about the entire series. Rondo and Garnett are the ones who lit the Cavs up.

I agree with what you said earlier that he's at his best as sort of a free safety, but the guy was a great one on one defender for a stretch

Yes he was a very good defender but for only half his career. Not saying he's not effective or wasn't a good on ball guy at some point but he's not on MJs level and you never see him guarding the opponents best player. I do think he's much better than Magic or Bird but Kobe made some all defensive teams and Magic has some great steals numbers.

It really comes down to Lebron's whining and theatrics for me. I just can't pull for the guy.

Just because you can't pull for someone doesn't mean you can't acknowledge how great they are. It's like me with the Pete Carroll USC teams. I absolutely loathed them but freely admit that they were historically great.

Spurrier is probably a better example. Couldn't stand the guy but he modernized SEC football.

The biggest blemish on LeBron's record is the 2011 NBA Finals against the Mavs. If that's his blemish, then what about the Lakers, the #2 seed, getting swept by the the Mavs, especially game 4 by 36 points?

Game 4--2011 Lakers and Mavs

Kobe's "3rd gear" resulted in 17 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 steals, 0 blocks, & 5 turnovers. He was -29 in 37 minutes.

This included 0-5 in the second half with 2 points, 1 rebound, 0 assists, and 2 turnovers.

Or what the 3-1 series lead against Phoenix in 2006 first round, only to lose 4-3 including a 31 point loss in Game 7?

Game 7--2006 Lakers and Suns

Talk about that 3rd gear!

LeBron is not a sociopath

therefore,

not the GOAT.
