Death penalty folk won't work

I'm assuming that psu is like lsu in that football helps fund other sports

Taking away football then hurts other sports that had zero to do with these horrible events

The people currently with the football program had zero to do with these horrible events. If you're going to hurt them, then why not hurt the other sports?

+100000000000

penn state is a quasi state school....why do you think their tuition is so high...

it's part of the "commonwealth system of higher education" which includes temple and pitt....

the real state schools are places like shippensburg and indiana university of pennsylvania....

I dunno... like I said, the cover up just disgusts me. I understand gmorgan's stance and appreciate it but the fact that Penn State facilitated child rape for the benefit of the university and football program just doesn't sit right with me. The fact that someone literally stood there and said "we could stop this but we are gonna keep it hush and allow it to continue on our campus so St. Joe and his Lions aren't hurt by it" is sort of strange to me

Those student athletes can go play their respective sports for free at another university. They don't have to play at PSU. Life isn't fair and this is just another example of it. Get over it.

The act of covering it up is being punished.

But WHY is it being punished by the NCAA? The people who were involved in the cover up are going to prison for a very long time/the rest of their lives. The criminal justice system has already punished those responsible. Now you're going to punish the school and the program for something that didn't involve a competitive advantage. And these sanctions are all based on a report that wasn't even put together by the NCAA.

How are they being hurt if you allow them the opportunity to leave without penalty?

I wouldn't be surprised if the penalties we hear about tomorrow are across all sports to be honest. but maybe one of the coaches of those other sports would have gone to the police had he known his assistant was raping boys

Maybe you didn't see it..but I called you a queer...which is widely known the most effective way to win an arguement. You are just throwing cheap shots after the bell now

The people opposed to DP or similar punishment obviously know little about this case. They obviously have not read the Freeh report.

It makes it clear, time and time again, that this occurred because of the attitude and culture at Penn State that went from the very top (Paterno, Spanier who covered it up) down to the very bottom (Janitor A, Janitor B who failed to report). And it was a neglectful, horrendously mis-prioritized attitude that permeated the entire football program.

The simple fact is, Penn State football has become a cult-like place. This mindset was conducive to what happened. God knows how many people either covered it up or ignored it. Probably hundreds. (You're going to ask where I got this idea, and the answer is the Freeh report. I fricking read it. You read it.)

The only solution is to eliminate the entire system. If you are against child rape and want to make sure this never happens again, that is the only solution.

Why should they have to move? Just because people want blood?

It's a cult type place because the media said it and majority ran with it. The fan bases are.no different than Lsu or bama. The fricked up part were the people running it

And the criminal justice system has done that. All you are doing with this punishment is making yourself feel better.

Are any of these people who knew this still at Penn State? Do you have any names?

My eyes are now open. We'll bring down a football program to stop rape.

it was a hypothetical answer for your question as to why there won't be penalties for other sports (which there may be)
