PCA is leading Ohtani by 1.7 WAR. Ohtani has pitched 85.2 innings, that's half a season for the average starter these days. If Ohtani had pitched July and August, AND maintained the career-best pace he was setting, they would be tied. But he would not be blowing away or even ahead of PCA.

As I told my friend WCA earlier in this thread after he scoffed at the War because Ohtani had not pitched in 5 week or whatever it was - get back in a time machine and go back to the day Ohtani was pulled from pitching, PCA's WAR was still higher THEN!!

Folks constantly underestimate how good he is defensively and how much value that adds, plus Ohtani has cut way down on the base stealing, Pete has not. Dude is only 24 and doing sick things. He may not be the best player in baseball but he's absolutely close and it looks sustainable the way he's doing it!! He's definitely a big favorite for MVP this year.

Yordan may still be the best hitter in baseball this season, but PCA has been the best position player overall.

Yordan is definitely the best hitter this year.

As for PCA - I think folks that don't watch much baseball or don't watch much baseball besides their team do not realize how good he is defensively, he's a generational defensive talent in center, and he has top level speed which translates well on the bases and gives other teams issues at time because of it. And yeah, oh by the way, he may not quite be the hitter Yordan is this year, but he ain't all that far behind. And again, he's only 24 - quite a year he's having.
