Of course they are making money for Texas. The revenues are unequally distributed in UT's favor.

Wrong.

Part of the Big 12 revenue is equally distributed and part is given out based on how many appearances teams make on national TV. When Texas and A&M play in a nationally televised game, both get an equal credit for playing in a nationally televised game in the Big 12's formula. Both are treated fairly and evenly in that instance.......A&M is in no way making money for Texas when the 2 teams play each other.

It was on Versus. I got it here in Maryland. Do you frequent a sports bar in Mosul?

Texas is true for sure. Word is they are traying to get 14-16 teams in the PAC-10, so the rest may very well be true.

Come on, 4 16 team conferences. Then the MWC, CUSA, Sun Belt, and MAC remnants go play in some new classification between DIA and DIAA

If Texas A+M doesn't go, perhaps Pac 16 will invite Boise State or Fresno St.

Question is:

What happens if the SEC adds A&M?

If they added both, would one or two of the bama schools (Auburn perhaps) move to the SEC East?

What about Texas Tech?

The SEC couldn't stay at 12 I wouldn't think, and 13 doesn't make much sense either. Go after Florida State or Miami? Louisville?

I'm sure the SEC would love to get Texas, TAMU, OU, Okie State.

If Texas doesn't come along, you could look at Rice, Houston, Georgia Tech.

I really don't think the Pac16 adds Boise State ever. Utah/BYU would be at the top of the list I'm sure

what's shocking to me is how much revenue A&M presently generates considering how god awful in general they have been over the last ten years

its an accounting trick or something. A&M athletics just received a major loan from the rest of the university to stay solvent. It was a big scandal last year and was part of the reason leading up to their first female (and i believe Hispanic) president being forced out after having the job for like less then a year or something. (she was against it)

Cute, but No, BW's here in Houston. And they couldn't get it, it wasn't on their package, it may have been one of those deals where the network and some providers where in a pissing match.

ETA: I checked with a friend of mine and that's what happened, what ever network it was on didn't cut a deal with direct TV or whatever provider BW's has, so they couldn't get it.

so the big 12 commish was going to give a presser at 5... reports of this came out and it was pushed back to 6... now after a meeting with Texas President Powers it has been postponed till Friday. Seems this rumor has some legs.

gathered from the tweets of a few big 12 sports writers (not random bloggers like most past rumors have been based)

laying in Houston has advantages that playing the CS does not,

The only advantage to actually playing the game in Houston would be it saves a little travel time. Kyle Field holds more that Reliant and its a lot nice than Rice Stadium.

although with A&M you have a foothold in the Houston TV market,

lets be honest, LSU has more fans in Houston than Rice, probably a lot more. For A&M and UT its not even close, just look when ever either plays Rice in Houston. There is a reason Cougar High wanted to play Texas on Robertson instead of the Dome or Reliant. As a last ditch option Rice or UH would be ok, because they are in Houston, but how many TV viewers would either bring? I bet LSU gets better ratings in Houston now, than either UH or Rice. An LSU Rice game would do well, but it would because of LSU.

but the $$$ for RICE would allow expansion and facility upgrades

that's great for Rice, what does it do for the SEC? I seriously doubt Rice would bring in = let alone more revenue than the SEC currently gets per team. Despite what you and the teasiptards in this thread say, A&M brings the entire state. They've been bad for a while now, so interest and enthusiasm is at a low point, but that has not and will not always be the case. Adding A&M would be great for the SEC and as I've said many times, I think it'd be better for them to split form Texas.

That's awfully generous of the Big 12

The overall TV money in the Big 12 is not divided evenly, it is in the Big 10 and SEC. I don't know why someone said A&M was tired of making money for UT, but I bet they are tired of making a lot less.

I would guess Florida State is at the top of the list, maybe some of the other ACC teams, but I wouldn't rule out someone like WVU or even better Oklahoma.

I'm surprised OU wouldn't want to come to the SEC over the Pac10 as well.

I know GT would jump through hoops to come back home

CU AD semi confirms...

quote:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn said he and other school officials have been led to believe the Pac-10 Conference is on the verge of issuing invitations to six members of the Big 12 to join its ranks. Bohn said CU has not had any contact with the Pac-10 or its representatives and he was not clear on how he came to believe invitations could be forthcoming. But he said Colorado, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech could receive invitations possibly as soon as this weekend when Pac-10 officials meet in San Francisco. "The longer that we were together in Kansas City it appeared that that rumor or speculation did have some validity to it," Bohn said in an interview

Iowa State is an AAU member. But, yes, the other three are dumber than a bag of hammers.

Question for Texas fans - is there any credence to the idea that Texas would become independent? I read a USA Today article in which the Texas AD said that it was something they would consider.

If the 4 super conferences system comes about, being independent will get a team left behind.
