One and done rule has killed college basketball

It's nothing but aau super teams. Product is terrible right now

It should be two years or pro, but then again...the top guys probably wouldn't go to college unless they all paid as much as Duke.

It doesn’t apply to the NCAA tournament
But the games that are nationally televised in prime time are showcasing these elite freshmen and the AAU style of basketball is wreckless and lacking fundamentals
Their street coaches are looking to win to further themselves, not improving the actual players techniques
ETA - college basketball has had a terrible product for quite a few years. It’s hard to watch at times. AAU is the problem, not the 1 and done

I'll always believe that the NBA should adopt the MLB's policy. Either you come right out of high school or go to college and stay three years. Even two would be ok. That would make college basketball much better if you ask me.

Your soon to be #1 team does not have this problem.

I agree, will never happen though.
If it did, you would just see more kids going to Europe to play. Baseball doesn't really have that secondary option

As a Kentucky fan (and this probably only applies to Kentucky for the most part), it has it's good and bad side.
We have great talent every year, but generally in the NCAA tourney the inexperience shows, and you lose, then the next year you are starting over essentially.
Senior day used to be epic, now we don't have it anymore, and that's kind of sad.

There is some movement in the NBA to go back to drafting kids out of high school. Might see a change back in a few years

I also think the product would be better if the players went through a more traditional recruitment process to find the right fit rather than just going to the program that paid them the most. I don't care that they're being paid, but simply going to the place that's giving you the most money regardless of if you fit with the school, the coach, or the style of play has been a big factor in the ridiculous number of transfers.
ETA: I don't think the one and done rule is an issue. I think there could be a better CBB product even with the one and done rule. So few players should actually be one and dones. The rule isn't the issue, it's the bad advice.

I think they made this rule to give NBA scouts a year to actually check if these guys are worth a damn
Without the one year in college, the majority of drafts would probably be the top 20 or so Hs recruits
Atleast now they can tell from a year of that ranking was wrong

is the product worse than when any good HSers skipped college altogether?

It's a hard watch. These dudes are shitty except for the top players.

The national championship last rear was UVA and Texas Tech. The other two Final Four teams were Michigan St. and Auburn. None of those are AAU super teams.

I like the baseball model.

The one year helps the NBA a lot. The scouting, like you said. The free marketing to make even more people aware of the player. And (kind of goes with the scouting) it's another year of filtering off court behavior as well.

go back to letting players turn pro whenever they want to.

Three of the those four I would consider programs, not just year over year teams. Guys are going in to UVA, Texas Tech, and Michigan State with the expectation of playing for multiple years and following a development plan accordingly. Those programs are exception rather than the rule, not only at the highest level, but throughout college basketball.

Do all 14 college baseball fans complain about the product ?

Huh? This year is the most wide open it's been in years. None of the "AAU superteams" are overly dominant.
