Question: How did you react or fell when the NBA and NCAA institued the three point line. Did you hate it, or love it at the time?

College 3 point line is a joke. NBA doesnt bother me. Its terrible for younger players though. No one can shoot the mid-range jumper any more. It all use to be about moving the ball to get the easiest shot possible. Thats gone.

A few years ago I coached 10-12 year olds and at tryouts I walked into the gym and there were 100 kids trying to heave the ball from behind the 3 point line.

I played high school ball at a big school in Ohio and one year of DIII ball. Totally different than the game I learned. The team I drafted stopped shooting 3's that day! Im more of a Gene Hackman Hoosiers kind of coach.

Well, you can always tailor that game to include the 3 pointer. Coach K does it. Robert Montgomery Knight did it...

But I agree with you on kids trying to get on the highlight reel instead of just doing what's needed to score.

Its crazy not to take advantage at the college level. The shot is so short and the players practice it so much. I would almost be willing to bet that most college "shooters" will shoot a higher pct from the 3 than from 12 feet.

I'm not an NBA hater, but I think there are legit reasons to dislike the current state of the NBA.

Some of it may be personal such as not being able to relate to all the immature/undisciplined high schoolers and one and done 19 year old "college" players. Similarly, it might be how many busts there are because so many players have "high ceilings" but a limited body of work to accurately judge them with.

It also feels like the game is a lot more 2 on 2 and 3 on 3 than it used to be with too many uninvolved players just standing around, although that could be because I mostly watch the Hornets

I also don't like how dominant the business end of things can be. There isn't a single "improve the Hornets" thread that doesn't involve finding a way to dump contracts.

Two things. ONE: why is this pct a bad thing? TWO: You are aware the three point line was moved back, correct? Does the criticism extend to the new line?

Most NBA players shoot a higher percentage from 3 than they do from midrange. Midrange shots are the least made in basketball

I know at my H.S. we had a guy make 6 three pointers in a game.

Mid-range shots are contested more often, which explains that.

BTW, shooting 33% of 3s is the same as shooting 50% from 2...

I didnt say it was a bad thing, its just the way it is. I said that any college coach should take advantage of it.

I dont like it for young players. I dont think they learn to be all round shooters as well as they use to.

The lack of the basics in the NBA is amazing to me. How does a guy not block out in the NBA. All of us see it all the time. Switching on every pick even if its 30 feet from the goal. I dont get it.

I still love the game though, its just different times.

My friend Al once scored 4 touchdowns in one game when he was in high school.

Love the 3 pointer. Opens up the game. Can't stand the 360 double pump Hot Dog dunks though. By the way, whens the last time they called traveling in the NBA?

And I believe the answer is that it would negatively affect too many of the leagues superstars that the NBA works so hard to promote for ratings and popularity

Back up the line a foot in the NBA and just let it hit the sidelines about even with the free throw line, eliminating the corner shot. Make the college distance the same as the NBA. Eliminate it in all high school and below competitions.
