re: Ohio State AD says recruits are asking for 5K just to visit the school

It starts by asking for $5k until this becomes norm. Then you'll have the #1 recruit in the country one year asking for $10k per visit. Then $20k....$30k...

If it’s not worth it then don’t pay it?

I haven’t read past the 1st page I’d of the thread yet, so forgive me if this has been covered. But have any of you ever been on a football recruiting visit? I certainly wasn’t close to being recruitable, but I was lucky enough to have a best friend who was, and he took me as his guest on an unofficial to the LSU Houston game in ‘96 in Dinardo’s 2nd season. (The LSU fans in here may remember that as the game where Kevin Faulk single-handedly turned what was about to be an ugly loss into a come from behind win with a historical 2nd half).
My buddy didn’t even have any LSU love at that point—I’m pretty sure it was his 1st LSU game. He grew up a Miami fan, but knew how much I loved LSU, so was nice enough to go and let me tag along. And not only did they treat him like a king, they treated me, an absolute nobody, like a prince. I remember Sam Nader shoving ice cream sandwiches down my throat for an hour straight. The actual recruits broke away for a nice dinner in the stadium club and got to go down on the field during the game for a quarter or so, but I got a ton of small little perks myself. And he was treated like royalty. On an unofficial. 27 years ago, pre-Saban, with a tiny budget (respectively), when recruiting was nothing like the behemoth it is now with all the cash they’re throwing to entertain these kids.
It’s not some huge burden on the kids that have to “suffer” through a day or 2 on campus. Seems like a pretty fricking awesome time. Especially on officials where they can fly them and their families in, put them up in nice hotels, take them to dinner at the nicest places in town, and provide them with personal, hot-arse hostesses to tour them around campus and show them the nightlife. Not to mention all the pool parties that seem to be the new norm now, and any number of other cool experiences that most of us commoners aren’t privy to.
And I’m fine with all of that. Go have a great time on the schools’ dimes. And if somebody offers you $5k and it’s somehow legal—absolutely take it. If that’s how schools want to spend their money, I’ve got absolutely zero problem with any of it. But outright asking—or demanding—an appearance fee, basically, when you are in high school and the chances are you won’t even wind up there, is insanity. But again, I blame the a-hole adults who 1st said yes and turned this into a common practice way more than I do the kids. What possible other outcome could they have expected?

But seriously, your post is a statement, but you haven't defined what the actual issue is. If what you said happens, why is that an issue?

This… if the kid isn’t considering you he won’t ask you to pay

A&M made $85mil last season in revenues

Why is that the 5 star running backs problem?

Hasnt most of their money collected lately towards their stadium so the numbers have been very inflated? I thought I read that on the secrant from an A&M guy.
Yes and those of us with a business acumen know that revenue and profit are two different things.

TAMU’s AD made $1.3M last year without even playing a down or practicing. Pay the kids.

The question is…” are they paying it”!

I guess he knows how fans feel when schools keep asking them to pay higher ticket and concession prices.
Comments such as this confuse me.
Is it the schools forking out cash for NIL deals or is it the boosters/businesses spending the money?
Sorry for the ignorance but I am not up on how this crap works.
