Based on those videos his arm didn't look impressive at all IMO... He's got good power cause he's a big, strong MFer, but it looks like his swing is really stiff.. I'd like to see him face some minor league pitching in a game, it'd be interesting for sure.. I'm sure ESPN would interrupt live broadcasting to show it too

Yes ESPN would. Which is why someone will sign him.

I bet TT doesnt finish one season of minor league ball if he starts.

Why is his so hard for some of y'all to accept? He is really good at baseball. It makes no sense. The dude is a virgin so he couldn't have banged your wives. So why the hate?

The goalpost moving by his detractors since yesterday's workout has been entertaining to watch.

I'm a Tebow fan, don't come after me. Yes he blew away the expectations at the tryout. But let's not pretend that some MLB clubs won't be influenced by the amount of PR and media attention they'll get out of this.

Tebow caught every catchable ball, chasing down balls in and out of play without incident. A third scout was slightly more bullish watching him in center field, grading him a 50 defender. "A playable, serviceable defender," the scout said.
this is a surprise to me. I thought he would play 1st, or even catch.

or even catch.

It wouldn't surprise me if he plays in the big leagues for a couple years
Jesus fricking Christ. Did we watch the same workout highlights? He looked pretty damn stiff to me. Everything else is average to below average yesterday and that was only on measurable and banking on his athleticism. He's a good athlete, that was why he would have had a shot, but we all knew/know that it would be extremely tough to hit real pitching and not BP fastballs be served up. So, you have a situation where he has a below average arm, is a "serviceable" defender and the only thing that is above average is his power. Well no shite, he's about 230 lbs and hitting BP fastballs, I think we all expected him to have legit power. How does below average/average everywhere and only taking BP translate to "It wouldn't surprise me if he plays in the big leagues for a couple years"!? Do you know how difficult it is to make it to MLB. How skilled those guys are?

Left handed catcher? Tell me more about your vast baseball knowledge!

He also went 8-19 against live pitching yesterday with 2 balls hit off the wall and a walk...
He also graded above average on 2/5 compared to MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS
He had a great tryout. Stop being an idiot and admit it

Grading out about average on a major league scale isn't bad at all. Someone saying they wouldn't be surprised if he played a few years in the big leagues isn't that big of a stretch. A lot of players get a year or two worth of service time in the majors or are "serviceable" defenders with below average arms and above average power. Hell Russel Branyan played for 14 years and for the most part all he ever did was hit home runs.
So is Tebow playing a year or two in the majors really a stretch?

Even though his swig looks like this
And his arm strength is suspect, even the baseballs he throws wobble

Where did you get the 8-19 stat? From all indications, he looked good in batting practice but struggled mightily against live pitching. I know he went 1-5 against Chad Smith. I don't know what his numbers were against David Aardsma but I can't imagine they were much better. And here's what another former MLB pitcher who faced Tebow in batting practice said about his professional chances.
quote:
And one day Rowland-Smith relented. Like a guy letting his little brother have a turn, he told Tebow to get in the batter's box. He threw him a few fastballs at about 80 percent, and when Tebow squared one up, Rowland-Smith, a left-hander, broke off a curve.
"He missed it by three feet," Rowland-Smith said. "He was serious, and so was I. I wanted to get my work in, so I threw a breaking ball. Not a great one, not a bad one. When I face hitters, 30 seconds into it I can tell the difference between a pro hitter and someone who isn't."
He lets that hang there. He's not making judgments, just telling a story. "If he wasn't Tim Tebow, there wouldn't be people out there to watch him," Rowland-Smith says. "But more power to him. People are drawn to him."

quote:
Morosi reported early on that Tebow was faring OK. “Tim Tebow’s 6 plate appearances against Chad Smith: 1-for-5 with a line-drive single to CF and walk,” Morosi tweeted. By the end of the workout, Tebow had improved, finishing the day 8-for-19 with two doubles and three strikeouts. Morosi reported.

The only tools he graded out as average is power and speed. A 40 grade is well below average.
