There’s no doubt that the sw area is way ahead in baseball. The downside is football doesn’t matchup to other areas as these kids may play other sports.. but baseball is king and it shows. From little league on up…

Throw in the level of competition coming out of SE tx and you’ve got a breeding ground of great baseball.

Actually, it was his personal demons.

To the original point, the old structure of the state tournament and the "everyone agreed it was worth risk" mentality was a not good for anyone.

agreed to an extent

football has fallen behind for a couple of reasons

1) lc prep opening up syphioned off lots of kids that were going to barbe

2) hurricane laura killed the population for a couple years. especially in the lower and low middle income population which made up a lot of the best football players. north LC and east LC was devasteted. i was told fk white middle school alone lost over 300 students compared from before the stomr

3) barbe and westlake lost their long time head coachs in the last decade. them retiring and being replaced with coaches not as good. Westlake is on the way back and hopefully Owens does good at barbe. St louis has awesome coach and if they get the new school built look out. Sam houston has always been week in football, no culture of winning there. Iowa is killing it though. Sulphur has way way too much politics going on. Have a shite ton of talent, more than anyone in the area but struggles to get and keep coaching and to let the coaches coach

most of the baseball talent is comign from south lc and then the middle to upper middle class in the other areas. those areas are traditional baseball families. in the past many played both but are specializing once they get to 8th or 9th or at latest after soph year now. Same problem West Monroe has run into somewhat. but those are small things compared to what i named above.

You have good points as always. Only one I challenge is LC Prep to a degree. LC Prep hurt LaGrange and Washington Marion WAY more than it did Barbe. That excuse has been used before and I am not buying it as much as the other reasons. When you look at the history of Barbe football, their difference makers were almost always in zone kids with few exceptions. Perhaps they lost a little depth from kids goings to LC Prep. I would argue that more kids are getting to HS and focusing just on Barbe Baseball. Drost, Guidry, and so many others for sure would have been at least solid contributors on the gridiron.

It IS odd that SWLA is so dominant in baseball yet not so in football. I WILL say that whether you like him or not, Cecchini is a difference maker. You make that guy a HC in football and there is no doubt in my mind he would be successful as well.

pretty much every kid at lc prep that starts for them would have been at barbe the 8-10 years prior to prep opening.

LG hasnt been good at football in well over 2 decades because the admin doesnt want to suport the coaches or put the discpline into the school that it takes

pretty much same problem that WM has. Many in the athletic department at prep were at WM. Why are they finding so much more success at prep than they did at WM? Because they have an admin that supports them and allows them to do what needs to be done.

now prep has hurt WM big time in basketball. LG is just a failure of a school imo.

he is a difference maker, big time, but his wife is the real difference maker and the reason him and Barbe is where they are. she is the glue, the real brains behind the operation. Glen is amazing head coach, real motivator, she is the X&O coach and the reason its become what its become. Even retired she is still there and now the oldest son has taken that role.

prep hurts them but coaching and the populaiton decrease with the hurricane is really what messed it up.

but i do believe the area is on its way back in football too though but swla will never really dominate in football like they do baseball. wont happen because as mentioned many of the best athletes give up football to play baseball.

Helpful to learn all these things about Barbe sports and 5A, had no idea. This board is fortunate to have so many knowledgeable insiders. And to know what zone every starter for LC Prep in the past 8-10 years came from. Wow. Case closed.

Crazy stat, 3-3a has a chance to produce 3 state champions; Iowa(D2NS), St Louis(D2S) and possibly both finalist in kinder and south beau in (D3NS)

District 3-3a which is the following teams:
Iowa High School
Jennings High School
Kinder High School
Lake Charles College Prep
St. Louis Catholic High School
South Beauregard High School
Westlake High School

district also had westlake in quarters getting beat by Kinder. I know the focus on the SWLA districts is always on the 3-5a district with good reason(3 teams in top 12 of maxprep national rankings) but the 3a district over here is stupid strong.

Crazy thing is....as tough as it is, St louis hasnt lost a district game in like 3 years.
