PRINCETON, N.J. -- With the health of students as well as the campus and the general community in mind, the Ivy League Presidents have decided to cancel the upcoming Ivy League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments. The League’s regular-season champions, Princeton women and Yale men, are the automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Tournaments.

The decision has been made in accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals to discourage and limit large gatherings on campuses in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

“We understand and share the disappointment with student-athletes, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in these tournaments,” Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris said. “Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”

All tickets for the Ivy League Basketball Tournaments will be refunded in full. Ticket holders with any questions should contact the Harvard ticket office.

Regular season champion Yale will go to the NCAA Tournament.

Sucks for Harvard

One game behind them in the standings, beat them Yale twice in conference play and just as recently as last game that was played.

This is what every conference should do every year.

I don't know if i'd call Ivy League tournament games large gatherings. There's probably a 10's of thousands of businesses that have larger gatherings in their office daily.

I'd rather those than .500 P5 teams.

Complete BS...Then no school from the Ivy League should be in NCAA tournament if this is their view. Give their bid to another school.

You realize that this is how the Ivy League always did it up until a few years ago, right?

I mean if that is your thought process, lets just make the whole tournament at large bids only.

One of the greatest parts of the tournaments are the upsets. I think we all know and understand that in a one game series the best team doesn't always win.

And? If they are cancelling their tournament because of large crowds, then they should be consistent and not participate in the NCAA tourney. Simply put. Be consistent

Agree

Conference tournaments determining NCAAT teams is stupid.

I still can't believe they cancelled the largest tennis tournament in the world outside of the slams due to one corona case in the area. I'm actually starting to worry about March Madness. I'll take games in empty arenas if it comes to it.

I think the only teams that should get automatic bids are the regular season champs. They proved over the course of the season that they should be the rep. A 2-14 team should not be able to get in because they luck out and win 4 games in a knockout tournament (where they may not even have to play the best teams).
