Of the three major sports, NFL is the only one without fully guaranteed contracts?

Might want to focus on that there issue NFLPA instead of trying to bang your cup for all the other ridiculous fringe crap.

If I were them, I'd lock it out until this was mandatory.

With so much risk, this is the major sport that should be fully guaranteed.

I'll hang up and listen to any arguments against.

Dear God, I hope this never becomes the norm in the NFL. Teams get ruined by those contracts in other sports and I really don't want to see the NBA virus spread to other leagues.

The problem is that the players union in the NFL is the weakest. Careers are shorter in the NFL and coaches, players, and GMs and presidents are predominantly from the South. But the short careers make striking in the NFL especially hazardous. If the average career is 4 years striking is so much more risky.

The irony is that the NFL has the biggest tv contracts and revenue but it's too easy to divide the players and encourage scabs.

Dude, I'm as anti union as they come, but this is a Class A issue. Or it really should be.

They won't be able to maintain that labor stronghold.

Teams could easily absolve themselves of risk by offering shorter contract lengths. The market would sort itself out.

I know as a player with a shorter career in a risky sport, this would have to be a priority. Someone like Brady should really be leading this issue on behalf of the players.

I’m not disagreeing with the idea that they should be fighting for guaranteed money, but it’s not really that simple

This is like saying “if I were president I would just feed people and solve world hunger”. Like….yeah, but it’s a bit more complicated than that

The NBA is the absolute opposite end of the spectrum. Big money contracts can be considered a trade asset in the NBA

But also the most employees. NBA has 30 teams of 15 players, 1 HC, and 3 assistants on the bench. NFL has 32 teams of 53 players, 1 HC, and like 10 assistants on the field/booth.

Albert Haynesworth. There are examples in other sports, but this is the most egregious one in football. It would suck to fully guarantee a massive contract and then get screwed when the guy gives less than zero effort after signing his big payday.

In a salary cap league, there should be some kind of protection against that.

And like 35 of them are paid on low end of the market and can't afford to miss a long stretch of game checks.

NFL players: we need guaranteed contracts because we face serious injury while doing our job

NFL owners: I don’t if we can do that, but how about we write “end racism” on the back end zone lines and allow you to wear t-shirts on the field during warmups with the name of your favorite person who got killed while resisting arrest?

NFL players: Deal!

Why in the world would you write a guaranteed contract with the risk of injury much higher compared to the two other major sports?

The NFLPA would never agree to that.
