EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Odell Beckham Jr. has loftier goals than being the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver -- he wants to be the NFL's highest-paid player. The New York Giants' star wide receiver made the declaration in a video posted by UNINTERRUPTED on Thursday. "It's like the elephant in the room, and you don't want to talk about it," Beckham says in the video. "But I've gotten to the point in my life where I'm like, 'No, I'm going to ... there's no need to not talk about it. "I believe that I will be hopefully not just the highest-paid receiver in the league, but the highest-paid, period." Beckham worked out on his own this offseason in Los Angeles instead of attending OTAs, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported through sources that Beckham's contract was part of the reason he remained away. He ended his absence when he attended mandatory minicamp last month, and was in attendance Thursday for the start of training camp.

Beckham is to make $1.8 million this season. He is set to make over $10 million this year in endorsements separate from his football income, including $5.8 million from his newly-signed Nike deal. Next season Beckham is scheduled to be paid $8.459 million in the fifth year of his rookie contract, a figure well below other top wide receivers. Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown recently signed a new deal worth $17 million per season. The NFL's highest-paid player this season is Joe Flacco at $24.55 million against the salary cap. Nine of the top 10 players on the list are quarterbacks. The highest-paid wide receiver this year is Dallas' Dez Bryant at $17 million.

He would be an idiot to not demand that. He wont get it, but he should at least try to start the negotiation there.

Well when you consider that Flacco is the highest paid player in the league, he has a point

He deserves to be the highest paid WR
Ny has the money and as a Giants fan have no issues with this statement

I know Barstool Sports isn't the most credit worthy site, but they had a post today mocking how this has become a story. He has a goal to become the highest paid player in the league. It wasn't like he was demanding it. It's just a goal. Since it's July and games don't start for a week or 2, the media needs to create stories from nothing.

FWIW, OBJ is responsible for more Giant wins over the past two seasons than anyone else on that team.

Yeah but if we got rid of clickbait stories then what would redrifle have left to post?

What? The proper response to such an irrational demand is for the GM to walk out, and thank the agent for wasting his time.
This is how sports agents erode their own credibility.

His receiving numbers his first 3 seasons are practically unprecedented, Eli may be the quarterback, but OBJ drives the Giants bus. Shouldn't be highest-paid PLAYER bc that's unrealistic but should be making top receiver money bc outperforming his contract.

He's good but he's not Randy Moss/Jerry Rice good.
Too much drama. I'm not sure I wouldn't try to trade him. WRs can be found. He's not a QB or a pass rusher which are the two most important positions.
He's not the best player in the NFL or even close imo and his personality takes away from his value.

He's the greatest receiver in the league now, in his 3 seasons of pro football he's averaged 1,300 yds/11 TDs. He may not be as good as a Larry Fitzgerald or Randy Moss skill wise but his production has been remarkable with Victor Cruz and Sterling Shepard on the team no less!

He's not even the best receiver in the NFL.

It's Demaryius or Larry Fitz, but Fitz got that longevity though

No denying he's good but he's also a pain in the arse and a distraction which detracts from his value.
I'd rather have a WR with 80% of his production and none of his drama making less.
