Rappers are walking advertisers and they do it for free. As much as corporate America hates thug culture, they love the free advertisement they get from it. I remember in Tupac's Brenda's Got A Baby video when he wore the UNLV skull cap and starter jacket. Kids at my school were going nuts over that shite. I mean Nike makes over billion dollars annually from the sell of Jordans.
It's incalculable what the ' thugs' did for apparel sales. Starter Jackets , Caps , tennis ,jerseys sweats/ Tees,etc......Ask Adidas about Run DMC.(G.S Warriors - Run T-M-C.)
The NBA seemed to have embraced the young hip hop culture ( not a Hip Hop fan myself)until mumblings from Endorsers, Season ticket holders, fans & paternalism from David Stern.
Like Duncan , Vince Carter & others I understand the banning of ' doo rags' , gold chains or saggy pants at NBA events.
But don't tell me guys are suddenly ' role models' now because they dressed to please a certain segment ( most important/ Whites) of the fan base & Advertisers.

There's also a picture going around of OBJ nose-deep in some girl's vag so I tend to believe he's just living his damn life and we need to let him dance.
Saw the pic. Given the fact that 3 out of every 10 African American males aged 12-27 now has the same hair as OBJ, that could be anyone IMO.
If it's him, looks like he likes them a little thick.

You're just strengthening my position as to why & whom this dress code was implemented.
it's been good for NBA business. the players have become more likable.

well, he is black. this is allegedly that girl, the same girl that said she fricked Odell in here Tinder profile. she posted the picture of him eating her snatch

Her legs look stronger than his
Gay dudes hang with hot chicks all the time.
**Not saying Odell is gay**
**I believe he is straight**

Based upon what ?
Pre dress code NBA players are more popular & Games were consistently better rated in the Leagues Golden Era( 1980,s & 90's) that embraced hip hop culture & was the Leagues Golden era( 1980's & 90's) because of the product on the floor.
I was simply pointing out that NBA's dress code era convicted murderer like Jarvis Crittendon didn't make him any more a ' role model' than Pre 2005 players( Like Kobe Garnett, Duncan, Rodman, etc....)
The NBA was down after the Lakers 3 peat with most of their big market teams not playing well & slow pace of the NBA.
The League used poor ratings & poor product on the floor post Lakers 3 peat to scapegoat players dress & implement their Paternalistic BS.

kobe dresses professionally/conservative; like a businessman. Same as Jordan did.

Yep. NBA Golden Era had no problem with the ' thugs' for nearly 2 decades until ratings starting taking a dive when the product on the floor became increasingly inferior/ slow paced ( post Lakers 3 peat specifically).
Plus small market teams like the Spurs/ Nets / Pistons / Cavs/ Heat in some dreadful NBA Finals / playoffs that many did not care about.
What was the slow bogged down pace of the NBA & low ratings ( due to small market teams) blamed upon ?
Those ' thug' clothes & fighting on the court.
So the NBA with their Paternalism & concern for prejudiced fans / Sponsors all of a sudden scapegoats Hip Hop culture they once embraced.
Baseball & Hockey ' good old boys' can have all out brawls that are amusing & part of the game.
NBA players can't leave the bench area because you know(' thugs'), so the paternalism begins.
Like Duncan I understand a minimum dress code ,but don't come at me with this ' role model' BS.

Scam Newton has been involved in much more controversy. Kicked out of school, cheating in school, theft, bribed to play amateur sports. 2 of the above are definitely true. People will always believe the others. It isn't an apt comparison.

I think you are leaving out Malice in the Palace. That was the precipitating event for most of the league PR changes.

Perhaps role model is the wrong word, but one thing about the dress code is that it is more in line with American businesses in general. Now you can grow up wanting to be the next Dwayne Wade and emulating his look while keeping a more traditional career on the table. In the past, whether you like it or not, emulating Allen Iverson wasn't going to get you very far in America unless you had unreal basketball talent.
I'm not trying to argue whether or not that is "right - and you can make a strong argument that it isn't - but it is true.

why is the same suspicion not asked about Deandre Hopkins? - they both have weird and similar style.

Thanks, now that song will be bouncing between my ears the rest of the day.
But that's damn funny

Absolutely.
It gave the NBA the reason to react to the fan ' mumblings' ,but Vernon Maxwell went into to stands & punched a fan back in the early 90's.
Early 90's Charles Barkley spit on an 8 year old girl ( aiming for her dad) courtside & cursed out her father.
Who knows what Rodman was doing kicking reporters , headbutting Refs,etc....and the fights were epic.
The ratings were good & that was the NBA's Golden Era when the ratings were climbing & individuality of dress / behavior was fine.
Forward to 2004/ 05 & small market teams with boring low scoring defensive 79-75 games like the Pacers / Pistons/ Spurs/ Nets / Cavs,etc...... & the ' thugs' like Rip Hamilton( nice guy) & Iverson became the scapegoats for poor ratings/ image .

No argument just interesting discussion

But your comment smacks of the very paternalism that I'm speaking to.
The hardcore Thuggest of the Thugs & not NBA ' thugs' ,but true street thugs who would shoot you for looking at them wrong have been inside a McDonalds , Burger King,Popeyes,etc....
They are keenly aware that even minimum wage jobs have dress codes.
Young Blacks already understand most business dress codes without you or the NBA Paternalism.
Doo Rags, Chains, etc.....can be taken off unlike the body tattoos plastered over the arms , faces & necks of the new niceley dressed NBA ' role models' like Lebron ,Birdman, K Mart, Crittendon, Deshawn Stevenson,etc......
Stripping NBA players of their true indiviality in dress has caused them to express it with horrid tattoos that cannot be easily removed like silly chains/ doo rags.

Sorry you thought that Jarvis Crittendon ,Arenas, Felton ,etc...were 'role models' since the NBA made them wear Oxford shirts .
Sure you & your parents were also disappointed that the immacutely dressed OJ Simpson tracked the bloood of 2 victims all over his expensive Bruno Magli shoes.
