I think they keep them out west, Vegas seems likely with Portland being a backup. Portland just seems like too small a market to move an MLB team there

This was supposed to move forward three years ago. Guess this is to light a fire under their arse

Bay Area is such a large and populated area. Would it make sense to move the team to San Jose or another suburb of San Francisco?
Yes but a business owner will think it makes sense to move it to the highest bidder.

Moving to Columbus, Georgia

Kansas City and Milwaukee are way smaller than Portland and have kept their respective franchises for years.

and considering how expensive real estate is in SF, it would probably increase team value by a decent amount if they were able to put up a new ballpark there. but i would assume the giants would stop that from happening

Giants own the territorial rights to San Jose and have been blocking the A’s from that area for years. A’s tried to get something done there a few years ago.
The Giants would love to see the A’s move and have the Bay Area to themselves.

The Giants can veto a move like that as well if I remember correctly. I think the A’s already tried to move south to Santa Clara and the Giants nixed it

Vegas makes so much more sense than any other city.
$$$ for an organization that hasn't had a brand or fans in a long time..you can finally attract free agents.
Also no division realignment necessary.

Sure but that’s not really the best way to look at it. If you’re moving it you’re going to try to max the value of the move if you’re MLB, and Vegas >>>> Portland in that regard

If you're not staying in Oakland, you don't have any reason for loyalty to the surrounding area unless it is most profitable.
I can see Charlotte, Nashville, Salt Lake City, Portland and Montreal as viable bidders for sure.
But it's hard to see any of them beating Vegas.

And Vegas would build some ridiculous stadium for them in a heartbeat.

Come to North Texas. We have a whole other baseball stadium not being used in Arlington.

I’m sure Mark Davis would readily let the A’s use Allegiant as a temporary home until a baseball stadium was built. LOL.

As an A's fan this isn't really news. This has always been the threat.
Oakland political leadership and dumbass illiterate citizens have and are doing their damnedest to screw this up.
The A's have already once offered a tax free stadium project. Privately funded. No strings.
But the local leadership blew it all up. The details would infuriate you even if you didn't give one damn about the A's or the city of Oakland. fricking California hippies and their dumbass politicans.
Howard Terminal might happen. But if it doesn't the A's are gone. And that's a shame because the A's have some of the best home town fans in all of professional sports.

While the A's have expressed that remaining in Oakland and building a $12 billion mixed-use development is their priority, the standstill of the project prompted today's move. The leading contender if the A's do move: Las Vegas. Plenty of other cities would welcome the team, too.

And the pity for Oakland vanishes, like the baseball team.

Seems they could do an expansion on the kickass Vegas AAA stadium pretty quickly if needed. Maybe a permanent home?

The Giants and the MLB have made sure the A's can't get to any other Bay Area location every time the A's and that location (San Jose for example) have tried. The Giants want the A's gone but next best is languishing at the Coliseum.
The Giants are asshoe.
