Rob Sale is the Giants' new Offensive Line coach. He was the OC and OL Coach for the Cajuns this past season.

quote:

The Giants have found a new offensive line coach.

New York will hire Rob Sale for the position, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. He has been Louisiana’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach since 2018.

Sale and Giants head coach Joe Judge worked together on Alabama’s coaching staff from 2009-2011. Judge was a special teams assistant and Sale was a strength and conditioning assistant and offensive analyst.

Sale replaces Marc Colombo in the full-time role, after Colombo was fired in November. Dave DeGuglielmo took over an an interim basis for the rest of the season but was not retained for 2021.

Coach Napier is going to need to find a good replacement to help keep the train on track.

Can't say I was expecting this. We've still never had a head coach hired away yet we lose our OC to the NFL?

So now do we promote someone into that spot or bring in someone new?

It would have to be someone new at least for the OL part

Looney was the other OL coach

Definitely for that.

I was thinking more of the Offensive Coordinator slot.

Matt Viator or Leger for OC maybe? Both on staff already

Napier already was calling the plays

I could see that. Did they ever announce what position Viator was hired for? I just remember seeing that we added him to the staff with no other details.

I dunno about that, I'd much prefer an OL specialist coaching up our OL. I think Rob's recruiting and direct work with our OL is a huge reason for our recent success and two offensive linemen starting in the NFL right now.

I always thought he would return to run Bob Sale camera and video.

That would be a gigantic pay cut.

Rob's dad is a good friend and was my former neighbor when I moved back to Monroe. Probably a dead give away of who I am for anybody in Funroe reading this. We jab at each other obviously since I am a Bama fan and he is the LSU merch guy in Monroe. He told me back in 2019 that Saban tried to lure Rob back to T-town and he said the money was legit but Rob felt he had a good thing going with ULL. Then, when the ULM job opened, I texted Bob and said if Rob was interested and on their radar and he said it would take a better gig than that to get him to leave Lafayette. I guess this was a can't pass up move.

Great for Rob. Very deserving....

Maybe he knew Napier was leaving after next season and wouldn't take him with him so he took a chance to pre-emptively jump to a different gig.

He's going to be hard to replace.

Wish he'd have stayed to possibly be Napier's replacement as HC but definitely can't fault the guy for moving on up to an NFL gig.

Time to go get Mawae for OL coach at UL to prove his chops. Maybe he can coordinate also.
