Do OJ (NFL and aftermath) Marcus Allen, etc. only count for USC after they become alumni?

SI covers were bigtime, but honestly a school newspaper right after a big win was better to me. Its ironic coming from me, but the Rocky Block U of Alabama paper was pretty iconic IMO. Felt like that was the start of something great for Alabama and terrible for us

Over 100…… that’s crazy. MJ with 50 by himself is unreal.

It just shows you how popular MJ was.

Nobody has come close, not even Ali.

USC is a shell of itself... But in the 20th Century they were the preeminent College sports factory...football, baseball, Olympic sports. Plus they got to play Notre Dame every year, and especially in the 60's and 70's that was cover-worthy, as it most often decided the National Champion.

I was in middle school and convinced my mom to buy me a sports illustrated subscription. She agreed. It was pretty cheap by mail instead of buying them in stores. You could save a lot of money.

That swimsuit issue was the VERY FIRST of the magazines that arrived in our mailbox after she purchased my subscription. And it had those cologne pages that you open and smell. And you could kinda smell them before you ever actually opened up the tabs.

My mom was like “what the hell did I just buy you???!?!”

The story back in the day was that Jordan was really pissed about this cover and hated SI for it. Sports illustrated realized they screwed up. When he returned to basketball , they put him on the cover for like 3-4 straight weeks at one point.

I remember getting my magazines and week after week after week it was Jordan again and again.

I wish I would have saved more of the magazines. They all mostly just got tossed aside from the swimsuits and a few chosen ones.

UNC alum Michael Jordan has 50. UNC has been on the cover plenty other times as well. If Alabama has 40, then they are not 2nd.

Did you word it wrong and just mean colleges?
