Really good article. I used to be a big fan in the early-mid 2000s. But Jimmie Johnson bored me to death and my guys never won anything, so I bowed out.

Any of you guys in a similar boat? More importantly, how can it recover from where it's at today?

I just think it got bigger than it ever was supposed to be. NASCAR needs to accept if it's popularity normalizes or plateaus.

It will always be a niche country baw sport.

drivers and fans.

Owners have to have serious money to compete.

My relatives were unaware motor sports existed...
Jews from Jersey, NYC, long island.

The First time I personally was aware of motor sports I was 15 and was over at a friends house.
They were from.north Carolina and had Indy 500 on radio or t.v..

I went another 30 years with no interest in or awareness of it except

When Juan fangio died, the pope said it was suicide and no race drivers should be buried in hallowed ground.

NASCAR made the same mistake as Arena Football. Had a really good surge in popularity and expanded into bigger markets that weren’t die hard fan bases while abandoning smaller, but more passionate, markets.

Honestly I think they'd regain popularity if they went back to what made them what they were. They put races at places like Chicago and Michigan when most of the loyal fanbase was down south(im not saying nascar fans in those areas aren't loyal).

They need more short track races.

Jimmie Johnson having the same amount of championships as Dale Earnhardt tells you all you need to know.

Haven’t watched since Gordon retired.

The circuit needs greater diversity in its drivers and owners. Inclusion would help. I’d recommend more women. Nude women. With nice hair.

product of the best team, best crew chief and best car

races can be entertaining, especially in the summer when nothing else is on. they need to quit directly competing with football. wrap the season up end of august.

this!

Also, Id say the financial crisis hurt its fanbase more than other sport and they haven't returned bc of price. I've been going to Dega since 2000 and it's absolutely ridiculous how expensive it's gotten. They abandended their highly supported markets and now charge an arm and leg.

Why? I don’t understand this line of thinking at all. I don’t like nascar, I also don’t like the nba. Millions of people like both and I’m happy for them.
