1-5 with 2-home run is the same as 3-4 with 3 singles with one RBI and one run scored for the stat heads.

I'm not a baseball or baseball stats guy just a casual sidewalk fan. I'm going to assume you mean 1-5 with a 2 run home run is the same as 3-5 with 3 singles and a run scored and an RBI. From an analytics perspective seem like the 2nd guy hitting singles has generated 2 more plate appearances for his team with the same run production. Which means more wear on the pitching staff and more opportunities to score. Might be slightly offset by opportunities to hit into double plays but feels like option 2 is better for the team in the long run. Especially in a long post season series where pitching staff wear becomes important.

I’m just assuming since the batting averages are way down the pitching has gotten harder to hit.

It has, and infield play has gotten better also

That’s why teams go for more home runs now, because it’s harder to string hits together, or even put balls in play with all the strikeouts now. Strikeouts are preferable to ground and fly outs because no one advances and less can go wrong

Analytics= Mike Trout. Whole bunch of pizzazz with very little substance. Hollow numbers that won exactly nothing.

Lol, Mike Trout is one of the greatest players over the last 50 years, if not all time.

OPS does make a lot more sense tbh. But avg certainly isn’t meaningless by any stretch

Maybe it's harder to put balls in play because you're swinging from the arse, which also means you aren't advancing runners?

You are 100% correct, they are because every hitter is doing the exact same thing so it would be kind of silly if they weren’t.
