Too bad it won't translate to outdoor success

I've been in it. It's pretty spectacular.

Northwestern has one of the most beautiful campuses anywhere. The parts along the lake are pretty breath-taking. The Chicago skyline is pretty prominent from the NU lakefront property as well.

The football team has an outdoor practice field that has to be among the best views of any practice field in America.

One day people are going to review video of these facilities and wonder what in the hell were we thinking.

I think it is great that it is appears to be a shared facility for all sports to access. Football gets highest priority I'm sure but it is still great to see a pooling of resources for all programs to benefit.

I think Oregon does...not because of the views but because they offer everything.

It's like working at Google. They have spas, high-class food, pools, serenity lounges, jacuzzis, etc. apart from all the weight room stuff and practice field.

I mean it almost looks like NW copied the design of Oregon's facility if you compare the two.

It's almost an unintended benefit for Northwestern. The property around the campus is probably among the most expensive anywhere in the U.S. for a major university. There probably isn't a university in America other than Stanford that can afford to build a huge space for soccer, a huge space for football, a huge space for baseball, etc., etc. in a place like Northwestern's campus with the price of an acre in the neighborhoods around it. They're kind of forced to build multi-purpose facilities by necessity.

A couple of other schools in similar circumstances, as I understand it, are UCLA and Miami. The property around those campuses is just absurdly expensive, so they build up and through instead of around.

Notre Dame and Alabama could probably both buy adjacent property to their campuses and build the best indoor football facility in the country for about half of what it would cost NU just to acquire the necessary property to do such a thing adjacent to its campus.

It's very similar to the all glass Oregon rectangle structure.

And over-looking a practice field.

Has the same boxy design:

This is Oregon:

Might have been the same company that designed both.

I didn't realize Oregon football patented square shaped structures made of glass.

I was just making an observation.

Wasn't making some claim that NW ripped off Oregon or that it was bad.

I like the facility.

Just responding to someone who said, nobody compares..

Well...that's not true. Because there still is the Death Star that everyone oohhed over last year.

It's not like Oregon facilities are now San Jose State because NW opened a new joint.

It's still the same modern stuff that pampers.
