re: Northwestern football hazing allegations

Pat Fitzgerald was an idiot for not striking while the iron was hot after 2012. 5 straight bowl games and a 10-3 season. He could have coached anywhere he wanted. Now he’s sacked in shame after going 4-20 in the last two seasons.

No idea where NW goes from here for next year. Given the allegations, not sure they can promote from within. And no decent coach will make a move this late.

The conference of legends and leaders seems to be full of deviants.

Meanwhile all of the media is on twitter high fiving each other. They just put Northwwestern football in an impossible spot, but they don’t care. They got their pound of flesh and get to stroke their own egos.

Pretty sure NW is exactly where he wanted to coach.

Fitzgerald fired per Pete Thamel
So an anonymous former player can make allegations, which are supported by some and unsupported by current players, and this can result in a head coach being fired? Even after an internal investigation conflicts with the allegations made by the former player?
Not that he doesn't need to be fired IF this is proven to be true, but damn that is some flimsy evidence at best.

Dude is a very good coach.
He was a whole lot better before his DC retired.
Pretty much the same thing going on at Iowa.

My thinking is that they are spending a metric frickton on a new stadium, and already have on practice facilities, and the team is on a downward trend.
Fitz is too well liked to fire after a couple bad seasons so they needed to spice things up a bit to get rid of him without there being an uproar.

BREAKING: @670TheScore has reported that Northwestern baseball head coach Jim Foster has created a "toxic environment in the program" and "broken the spirit of this team." The report also said Foster "made inappropriate comments about a female staff member."
Must be pile on the nerds day.

Dude went 3-9 and 1-11 the last 2 years. Let’s not act like they’re firing Knute Rockne.

No decent coach will go to Northwestern

A lot of the media (Medill) IS Northwestern

And nowhere did I say any such thing.
The point I was making is Fitz was in zero danger of losing his job prior to this. He's a well liked coach at a school that doesn't really expect to win a lot. Firing him for the last two seasons likely would have created a bit a pushback from alumni.
By sullying his name that issue goes away.

I didn’t really mean to direct that at you. More to the numerous posts saying how great a coach he is.
I mean, maybe?

Exactly. And why would they? They are either going to a program with an out of control hazing culture which the school tried to cover up with a lackadaisical investigation, or to a program in which an unsupportive administration can ruin your reputation and fire you for unsubstantiated rumors which contradict the said investigation.

He was inarguably their best coach ever and by a wide margin
The past few years have been brutal to the nerd schools. Between early signing, Covid, NIL and transfer portal. Look at how far Stanford has fallen.
NW isn’t going to find anyone that will reach his highs any time soon

I really don't think he's that great of a coach. After Hankwitz his DC retired they've gone in the dumpster.

Northwestern is expected to name defensive coordinator David Braun as the acting coach. Braun came to Northwestern in January from North Dakota State, where he was FCS coordinator of the Year in 2021.
