Agreed. I'd just go up there and swing three times and sit my arse back down on the pine

The Gerrit Cole record for consecutive strikeouts without a walk might also be unbreakable.

I guess I’ll be the first one in this thread to say it - randy Johnson almost certainly used performance enhancing drugs and for that reason I’ll take Ryan.

Randy Johnson was an extremely good pitcher who at the ripe old age of 35 put it all together and started one of the most dominant 4 seasons in mlb history. These seasons were (checks notes) 1999-2002. Pitchers that are 6-10 don’t become iron men pitchers never missing a start after their 35 birthday without drugs.

But it’s not fishy that Nola Ryan led the league in K’s in his 40, 41, 42, 43 year ole seasons? Lol

Sure they are. But those years don’t represent the clear prime for Nolan and aren’t necessary to put Nolan in the HOF. Those years weren’t career highs across the board for him on IP, Ks, ERA, CG. Randy Johnson’s HOF resume is built on the back of those 4 years.

speaking of which... remember that year RJ won Cy Young on like a 55 win team???

Edit- Nm, he didn’t, but he threw a perfect game and went 16-14 on a 51-111 team

I remember that season for Randy, but had forgotten how bad the Mariners were, sheesh.

Randy was a likely HoF candidate before he got to Arizona. His time in Arizona cemented him as one of the greatest ever though.

Standing in the box while a 7ft tall lefty slings a 100mph fastball sidearm is just about nightmare fuel.

This should not be a question. Randy Johnson is one of the best left handed pitchers in baseball history and a top 10 pitcher of all time.

Nolan is the better pitcher.

Johnson was probably more intimidating to hit off of because his height made it seem he was releasing the ball right in front of you.

ETA: I got to witness Randy Johnson's perfect game vs the Braves at Turner Field in person. I want to say it was '02 or '03. I've never seen such silly swings in my life of going to professional baseball games. He made EVERYONE look like they didn't belong in a MLB batter's box.

Yea looking back over his stats I probably agree with this. He won a cy young and finished top 5 in cy young voting 4 times before arriving in Arizona.

His time in Arizona was massive though and account for 30-40% of most of his counting stats.

I will say this - steroids or not peak randy Johnson probably had the most unhitable aura of any pitcher I’ve personally seen.

Randy Johnson was a better pitcher. I feel like that is obvious.

Nolan Ryan had a much longer career.

Pedro's peak. Those two were so much fun to watch.

Being a lefty I'd rather hit against Ryan.
