Or outcomes in the way today’s games with how it was played in the past. Look I enjoyed watching Rodgers limp his little way into everyone hearts tonight with the comeback vs the Bears but come the frick on. Seriously I watched multiple games(including my beloved Saints) getting railed with BS personal fouls on QBs. Point being a few years ago no way in hell Big Mack isn’t wearing Aaron arse for a moustashe and going hard into him every play assuring the coaches of the decision to no let him finish. My god this game has really become unbearable.

Done Rant

We should remove all penalties protecting QBs. That way when they all get hurt and we have to watch back ups play people will realize how stupid they sound bitching about personal fouls. That would be great for the game!

Yeah man back in the day all the QBs were backups because all the starters got injured because the defense was allowed to play defense.

Yeah it was great when Rodgers broke his collarbone last year because some fat arse landed on him with all his weight in an attempt to hurt him. It's unnecessary and dangerous. It's a good rule.

Its a good rule when its called right. Its too subjective by the refs. Against the Saints for example, the rule was taken beyond its intention. The first one when the defender landed on the qb, that was fair. The second and third calls were beyond reasonable, to the point where we might as well just be playing flag football. Not to mention that 15 yards is pretty excessive for what is often pretty ticky-tack and not blatantly trying to injure.

You deduced that it was deliberate attempt to hurt him? Do you think refs or anyone else can make that determination in a split second?

It's a horrible rule because it is going to get called on completely legitimate and benign hits. Defenders aren't gods who can hit the QB and magically contort their bodies to get off the QB's as they are on the way to the ground. It's a rule that's lovely in theory but is totally impractical.

the NFL is trying to preach the classic form tackle and penalizing defenders for using it against the QB (in the small window they have to touch the QB)

Ironically the more they move away from QB sacks, the less important pass rushing defensive ends will be. I truly think we are 5 to 10 years out from some sort of system where QBs aren't even hit anymore.

Yeah that’s about the biggest pussy rule I’ve ever heard. I almost turned it off right there.

You can hit QBs:

High
Low
Form tackle
A split second after the pass

And apparently you have to defy gravity after hitting them. Or defy the laws of physics and stop your 250 pound body on a dime when you’re running 10+ MPH.

Of course. I still remember last season when lsupride told me something to the effect of all he needed was Pro Football Reference and to watch a little on Sunday, and he could accurately rank QBs.

I forgot where I read it and the exact details but it essentially compared last season when Mariotta threw 15 INTs and some other starting QB who had threw 8 or 9. After the film was reviewed, Mariotta had thrown something like 12 interceptable passes the entire season, but most were actually caught as well as perfect passes his WRs dropped that fell into defenders' hands for INTs. The guy who had 8 INTs threw 21 or 22 interceptable passes but was just lucky that over half of them were dropped or the play was not made, and he didn't have any bad lucky with 3 or 4 of his good passes being dropped and going for INTs.

Without that film that none of us are watching, you'd never know that Mariotta and his 15 INTs did a better job protecting the ball than a guy who threw half the amount of INTs he did.

Did Mariota get hurt yesterday? I’m expecting more out of Corey Davis in year two on my fantasy team.

Also, I completely agree with you. However, the Titans has always been a boring team to watch.

One of my bigger issues with it is what appears to be disparity in calls (at least anecdotally) between the bigger, stockier, or more athletic qbs and the leaner/lankier Rodegers/Brady types. The same type of hit looks a lot more violent on Brady standing there like a statue than it does on Big Ben.

The old Shaq/Lebron effect. It's definitely real.

Today’s NFL is a joke, as are QB stats. Might as well be 7 on 7 flag football.

Those defenses were filled with inferior athletes and the coaches didn't really scheme worth a shite.

Defenses today are just too lethal.

You think watching Brady get hit and Rodgers get hit looks the same?

Brady looks like my 6 year old cousin getting hit by a linebacker.

When Rodgers isn’t running yeah it’s pretty similar.
