Georgia Cappleman of the state attorney's office provided a timeline for a possible charge to the Orlando Sentinel.

"I do think it's going to be hopefully by the end of this week, possibly into next," Cappleman told the newspaper.

I think we need to be thorough," Meggs said. "We want to be able to when we get to the end of this that if someone has a question we have an answer to it."

Still dont know what to make of this. If they were going to trial, why would you need to have any answer for every question? Thats the purpose of a trial.

But if you know that at this point, why are you waiting until Heisman voting is over before announcing and answering all the questions about not charging?

Stalling tactic.

If they're going to charge him they want to wait as late as possible to insure he is able to play in the ACC championship game so FSU without a doubt gets into the National Championship game.

I don't see any other treason they are stalling. If they have all this evidence that proves he is innocent they wouldn't be holding this thing this long with statements every couple days attempting to quell the media's (people's) desire for a resolution.

That doesn't necessarily mean he is guilty, that just means they know they have enough evidence to put this into court but they won't want to hurt the University and surrounding businesses financially.

Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke comes to the defense of a superstar college quarterback in Tallahassee.
Whenever a celebrity athlete gets accused of sexually assaulting a woman, it doesn't take long for the media machine to declare him guilty. It's now happening to Florida State University star quarterback Jameis Winston, who stands accused of raping a Tampa Bay area woman on Dec. 7, 2012. The alleged victim, who attended FSU, claims she didn't know the identity of her attacker until a month later, when she identified him as Winston.

See also: Jameis Winston: Arrest Him Already

Her family alleges the Tallahassee Police Department tried to sweep the investigation away to protect Winston, a Heisman Trophy contender who could lead the Seminoles to a national championship. State prosecutors have delayed their decision whether or not to file sexual assault charges against Winston, which will only hurts him. Despite being the best player in college football, he could lose Heisman race because of sports writers questioning if it is right to vote for Winston knowing a sexual assault case is hanging over him.

However, the truth is never black and white in sexual battery scandals involving star players. In 1996, Dallas Cowboys Michael Irvin and Erik Williams were accused by a woman named Nina Shahravan of video recording her while they held a gun to her head and raped her. She fabricated the entire story, recanted it, pled guilty to plead guilty to perjury and filing a false police report. Eleven years later, another woman accused Irvin of sexually assaulting her at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood. Prosecutors declined to file charges after reviewing the case. He sued her for defamation. They settled out of court in 2010.

In 2002, a woman claimed she was forced on stage and sexually assaulted during my performance at a South Carolina nightclub. However, two video tapes showed, and dozens of witnesses affirmed, that she participated willingly. She was charged with lying to investigators.

And don't forget Crystal Mangum who in 2006 falsely accused three Duke University Lacrosse players of raping her. The case fell apart when DNA evidence failed to tie Mangum to any of the 46 white players on the team. She eventually recanted her statement and said she was not sure she had been raped, although she insisted some sort of sexual assault had taken place.

These women have made it harder for real rape victims to prove they've been assaulted because people question their motives for coming forward with allegations of sexual assault.

In Winston's case, his DNA matched evidence collected in the apartment where the alleged rape took place. However, his attorney has asserted Winston had consensual sex with her. His lawyer also told the Tallahassee Democrat he's provided law enforcement with two affidavits from witnesses present that night that defend Winston.

Maybe investigators quickly figured out parts of her story weren't adding up.What if this girl is not being honest about knowing Winston? What if she did in fact know him and was already having consensual sex with him before the alleged incident took place? What if Winston hooked up with her again several times after?

What if there are photos of both of them together hanging out and having a good time? What if police investigators saw some pictures of her in very compromising positions? What if the cops told her if she pursued her complaint, these images would be splashed on every gossip site across America?

What if her lawyer convinced her she's got to lay the ground work for a civil lawsuit and for her to become fanous? He probably told her it's the American way and that being famous for sleeping with athletes worked for Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton.

Winston deserves the benefit of the doubt just as much as his accuser. It's only fair.

Uncle Luke has spoken

No objectivity in this piece. However, these are a few cases I forgot about.

FWIW, from the rumor mill
One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
#WINSTON: Have spoken with nearly a dozen attorneys concerning the case, as it stands NONE think there is currently prosecutorial merit

One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
#WINSTON: Two attorneys that have known and worked with Meggs for 10+ years feel he is particularly prejudiced in sex related cases...

One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
#WINSTON: Meggs is oldschool, Bible Belt conservative that looks down on relations outside of wedlock & may be playing "righteousness" card

One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
#WINSTON: One attorney went so far as to say Meggs is allowing Winston to be tried in media as punishment, knowing no case to make

One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
#WINSTON: Suggests that Meggs only play is to stir the media pot in attempt to "convict" Winston before dropping the investigation

One Florida Dynasty ?@OneFLDynasty 13h
@Noles850 Prejudiced as in hates sex, period. Looks down with disgust on those engaging in relations outside of wedlock

So what...about half the cases DA's bring don't have merit. The office is about politics and career.

Prosecutor is milking this...and would have no qualms about filing charges only to dismiss just before trial - to show he did as much as he could...absent bringing it to trial and losing - god forbid, losing can't happen.

I still think he's waiting for all the media hype to die down before he tells Jansen he's not moving forward.

I just dont see how he avoids a nuclear explosion when he stands before the media and says hes dropping the case without ever having spoke to JW

Because we know her lawyer will be releasing every morsel of info she has, and screaming that she never was allowed to break down the witnesses on the stand. It will stink to high heaven that FSU covered up rape just to win trophies

Wow! You must really be nervous? Not wanting people to comment on a message board?

But the fact that Meggs has all the info, and still wont drop the case probably does mean theres a little fire to all this smoke

I imagine you are feeling like the Bama fans did right when they put :01 back on the clock and lined up for the FG. What could go wrong at that point, right?

Meggs doesn't have to tell the media shite. All he has to do is pick up the phone and tell Jansen he's not moving forward.

Even is this was to go to trial, she wouldn't be the one prosecuting the case. It would be the State of Florida vs Jameis Winston
