Crazy that less than a decade ago, it might have been a bottom-five atmosphere in the entire NHL. Funny what winning (and, not to be understated, a favorable change in the way ownership runs the franchise) can do.

4-0. This is going well.

Really have no idea how this is happening given both teams' lineups. I mean, before the game, 4-0 in the first wouldn't have shocked me... just the other way.

Well, at this point, any form of hockey is intriguing to me.

Side note: Lost in much of the Johansen drama is Horton's injury problems. Really not looking good long-term. It'd be very unfortunate if his career takes a nose-dive with that contract.

Yeah, let me just break off from my lifelong commitment because of this preseason game.

Besides, I'm wearing a Blues shirt as I'm typing this. That's about as official as it gets.

Fortunately I never had to witness that. I started following them as a kid (I played goalie and was a big Ed Belfour fan), but growing up in Houston I never went to an NHL game until I came here to visit grad schools last winter

They already dealt with an injury riddled Horton for practically 60% of one season. They can do it again.

We are paying him retarded money and he hasn't given us much of anything. So frustrating

They at least get Mike Commodore off the payroll after this season.

He's a proven playoff performer, which would be nice to have, even if regular season we can get by without him. But beyond that, when you have Bob, Jenner, Dubi, Murray, Atkinson, Johnasen (in two years after his bridge), (possibly) Wennberg/Rychel/Dano all about to get major pay raises which will coincide with many years of Horton's contract... it really could cause a major cap problem down the road.

You're jumping waaaaay ahead throwing Wennberg, Dano, and Rychel in there.

The CBJ currently have over 14 million in space, the 2nd most in the league. Joey will probably get around 4-4.5 the next two seasons. Dubi's extension will be a 1.5 jump starting next season. Bob already makes 5.6 and I don't see him getting any more than 7. Jenner and Murray will get pro typical bridge deals. Plus the cap raises significantly next year. The CBJ are probably in the best payroll position in the entire league.

Hard to believe the regular season I almost here. Most teams have made the majority of cuts. The biggest surprise for me on the Rangers is anthony duclair - haven't actually seen the game from last night but he scored two on Crawford. Surprising because he's still on the team and Kristo, st. Croix, and tambellini who are all hot prospects have been cut.

On the predators i am surprised that kevin fiala at 18 actually looks like he fits in. Hope he is good enough to stay on once the three forwards get back from injury.

1 week until the season starts!

Was taking a look at guys with 0 NHL experience that might make an impact this season:
1) Justin Hodgemon, Arizona: With 4G, 1A how could he not make that team? He's got zero NHL experience and is leading the NHL in preseason scoring
2) Max Domi, Arizona: in top 5 for assists. How is it possible that Tie Domi's kid is a finesse player? Did he bang Gretzky's mom?
3) Nicolay Goldobin, SJ Sharks: 4 PTS, doing pretty well.
4) Barclay Goodrow, SJ Sharks: 4 pts

Pause: WTF is with the Sharks loading up on even more talent????

4) Anthony Duclair, NYR: 3 goals, 1 A!

As far as the Preds go, they just sent their leading goal scorer Pontus Aberg down to the minors

Preseason doesn't mean much but it is good to see how the next crop is looking.....

Just curious, why do you think that? I think they are one of the safest bets in the NHL, as they consistently tilt the ice in their favor, regardless of who is on the ice. I don't think that means they win the Cup again (there's lots of good teams in the West), but I'd think big regression would mean "not a Cup contender". Any reason why, or just a gut feeling?
