NHL hockey is the 2nd best sport in the US

No doubt in my mind. I wish all of the southerners on this site could experience how great this sport is like we have in Nashville. So much better than baseball or basketball.
I grew up in the deep south and never thought I'd like or even understand hockey, but I've become a quick convert (even before the Predators success the past 2 years) .
Might be the only major American sport left that has real men playing and not pussies like the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc have.

Getting closer and closer to #1 professional sport for me. It'll never pass college football for me though (I should've made it more clear in my first post that I was talking about pro sports).

Yeah you And your redneck cousins mindlessly downvoted this 15 years ago when I did the thread. But yeah, playoff hockey is as good as it gets. The hockey ethic is exactly what guys on this board would respect, they just don’t know it. The key is following a specific team and getting to know the ropes of the game and how specific players play specific roles. Go Avs !

I understand what you mean. I've had to travel to Toronto and Montreal, twice, in the last year. Sitting in bars etc, watching hockey on actual high def screens, in rooms full of passionate fans, gave me an appreciation for the sport that I never thought I would have.
I think the #1 thing is they don't stop to play commercials every 7 minutes. I was mesmerized by the nonstop action.
I'm still not a hockey fan, and never will be, but I definitely appreciate and respect the sport now.

FWIW, I like hockey and watch a decent amount, especially in the playoffs. The games are too expensive to go to that often, though.

Yeah, tickets are expensive even if you try to get a seat in the nosebleeds. I'm not big on hockey but I will have to say that the playoffs might be the best out of all major sports.
