It’s hard for a team to get better fast in the NHL. Big stars rarely hit free agency, and when they do… they go to another power team. Pipelines take a long time to develop, and the lottery will only sometimes produce an NHL star ready to go. Trades are an option, but you have to give to get. And a lot of stars have no trade and no movement clauses. It’s hard out there for the mediocre teams!
