Mittelstadt has at times been relegated to the 4C with Kelly playing up. It’s hard to say Drury is a step down from Mittelstadt by way of play (not potential) of late.

I didn't see that coming. I would have thought the Blackhawks would get more back than just a 3rd round draft pick.

Especially to retain 50% of Mikko’s salary.

The Avalanche still need a piece and have 5.6m to spend. All of us see all these interchangeable forwards but the weak link remains Mittlestadt at the 2C spot. He's just not dynamic enough to be a scoring center for this team. I'd love him as my third line center. And I'm not convinced bringing Landy back at 50% and having to kick two depth forwards down to pay him is winning strategy. I think I would prefer a one-year rental of a high-profile veteran 2C center (I see you Sidney) to take our shot at what is at best a 5-year remaining window for a Cup.
I also think they have enough Dman depth to make a trade although I really want to keep Sammy G.

Obviously the Avalanche won’t just easily replace Moose, and it’s a small sample size, but the top line seems to have an extra gear with Necas.
