NFL's 3 year rule for college players

If I remember correctly a few years ago when Clarrett and Mike Williams sued for the right to play, they were ruled against bc the rule was a deal collectively bargained for btw the NFL and Players Union.
If the players decertify the union, doesn't this barrier go away albeit temporarily? If the owners act together to not sign players of a certain age doesn't that violate anti-trust laws with no Union in place?
Any chance a sophomore like Lattimore could use this opening to try and jump in the league?

I guess they could. But there's not many sophomores that would do worth a shite in the league.

I don't know
but if the result of the decertification were to make the current agreement the law of the land (until a new agreement were reached) - I would assume no... the same restrictions on eligibility would still be in effect

Not going to happen because that rule will still exist WHEN the new agreement is in place and players can't sign until that happens.

Players would never want that rule. They open themselves to lose their jobs sooner by the potential of a larger talent pool available for teams. Its also bad business taking guys that young,

There is no rule is the point though. Decertifying means free pool of labor and no agreements on wages, who to hire, etc etc

I'm sure that rule will exist when a new agreement is in place, but the whole players can't sign thing I believe is only true if the Union exists not if it is decertified

I see what you're saying, but I couldnt imagine any scenario where the players union ceases to exist.

Hasn't the window for declaring for the draft closed?
ETA: Could they sign as FAs?

They'd have to go in the supplemental draft. If they don't get drafted there, they become UFAs.

If it's collectively bargained for in the new agreement it won't matter if the Union receritfies or not.
Theoretically, if the dispute drags out and the whole 2011 season is canceled, you could possibly see players declare for the draft (which will still happen in 2012 even with no new deal) and be selected, but if they struck a deal the day after the draft, you could see those players shut out from signing, depending on the wording. Or they might grandfather those players in.

I don't think they would go if they weren't sure there would be a season.
