You are allowed to make a play on the ball and make contact with the receiver but no ref is going to consider you to be making a play on the ball if your back is turned towards the ball. Sometime or another you have to turn around and back pedal or turn and run sideways with the receiver. In order to play the ball you have to see the ball. What he did wasn't face guarding. Face guarding is throwing your hands and arms up in front of the receiver to impede his vision. The DB did that which is fine but he was also chest bumping the receiver while he did that which got him the penalty.

So “chest bumping” him is enough for PI even the the ball was underthrown by 5 yards in a goal to go situation?
Ok man.
I’ll say it again and then see myself out, NFL officials need to stop rewarding poor throws with PI.

Shep cost us a a chance to tie or lead. Huge drop might cost the game as Dallas has momentum now. Still early but pits pressure on O to score and D to make a stop which they haven’t yet.
