NFL sends memo to owners not to panic over "crashing ratings"

An NFL official told the teams not to worry over the league’s crashing TV ratings, and said that the election and COVID are the reasons for lower viewership.
Sports Business Journal recently reported that NFL media operations man, Brian Rolapp, sent a memo to all the teams to allay their fears over the consistently bad ratings. Rolapp reasoned that both presidential politics and coronavirus hysteria was naturally diverting the attention of fans and resulting in fewer viewers.
Yeah thats it......
Thursday night game off 70%......

Yahoo Sports....UGLY RATINGS, NFL crashing
quote:
Thursday Night Football (NFL Network) was down an astounding 70 percent from last year, but that comes with a huge caveat: last year’s game aired on NFL Network and Fox. Broadcast TV always jacks up ratings, and it’ll do the same thing when TNF returns to Fox later this season.
Still: only 5.41 million watched the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets play last Thursday. (If you’re not a fan of either of those teams, or if you don’t have money riding on the outcome ... why would you?)
Sunday Night Football (NBC) took a steep dive, falling 37 percent in viewership from last year. The matchup was substandard — a winless Philadelphia versus an injury-ravaged San Francisco — even if the game ended up being fairly decent. If there’s a worrying sign for the NFL, it’s Sunday night.

Covid has everyone outside doing things way more than normal and don’t have time to sit inside and watch tv.
Oh wait

They're billionaires. They haven't got a clue how the average viewer operates.

NFL has 4 of 6 nationall broadcasts each week on broadcast networks, so the covid panic holds no water.

They still have better ratings than literally everything else on network TV

The owners know it is not true. They play along but you damn sure know they vote conservative at the end of the day. It's a show.

Everything else on network tv doesn’t get to charge 8 gazillion dollars for ad space
Posted on 10/6/20 at 4:33 pm to GO_LSU
Not the point. Ads have already been sold at a rate for higher ratings.

Their ratings aren't even bad just a stupid Breitbart article that exists entire so those virtue singaling snowflakes can jerk off to it

Lol using COVID as an excuse for low ratings is funny.
Posted on 10/6/20 at 4:34 pm to Strannix
Covid seems like a silly excuse. Shouldn’t Covid be helping the numbers with so many people staying home.
