It was actually so they could be in position to draft a black QB to lead their team.
What black QB? Wasn’t it 2019 he wanted to tank? Burrow is white they took Tua is Samoan.

Saying racism is subconscious is such a cop out and Trump card. Like OK you’re not racist and can prove it, oh no wait you still are subconsciously. That’s bullshite.

They tanked for Tua. It was a meme and slogan in Miami, and he’s black.

Do you not remember the “tank for Tua” thing? Look it up

Leftwich has been a successful OC with Tom Brady as QB and BA as HC.
And McDaniels? Being with Belichick doesn’t seem to stop coaches from getting jobs, including multiple for NE DCs. Just like working for Parcells didn’t keep BB from getting jobs. But working for Bruce Arians does? Why? And why doesn’t the season Winston had 5000 yds and 30 /TD count? They had a good offense without Brady.

Any owner/GM would be more “comfortable” with a guy who he thinks will give them the edge to win.

They started tanking for Tua then Joe surpassed him and Ross switched to wanting Joe but they weren't in #1 pick position anymore.

I think you’re vastly overestimating how much most owners care about wins and losses
They care a lot about winning a certain amount of games to keep ticket sales and merchandise up. There is a point of diminishing returns for them though.
9-8 is FAR better for them financially than 0-17, but 13-4 is not nearly as big of a jump from 9-8.
Source: I have a buddy that works in a valuation firm that has worked on a couple of NFL team transactions.
ETA:
Point of the story is the sweet spot is them spending just enough to break .500. This is because there are far more stories of teams spending crazy amounts of money and being crazy aggressive to win a Super Bowl or build a powerhouse that have failed than have succeeded. More risk of losing time and money involved in that.

People talk about accepting all colors; black, white, purple, green. But I say you gotta draw the line somewhere man. To hell with purple people.

And thinking every thing is 100% merit is naive. Look how hard you work to come up with reasons not to hire Byron Leftwich. Yet no explanation why that same standard doesn’t apply to others. Kingsbury failed at a 2nd tier Big 12 team (note how working with Leach didn’t hinder him) and got an NFL job but we’re not “comfortable” with Leftwich because he worked with BA and had Brady

How hard I work? By typing that he has an offensive HC and their offense became good when Tom fricking Brady became their QB? That’s not working hard.

What makes Brian Daboll a better coaching prospect than Leftwich/EB?
You're looking for an objective answer, but the real answer is likely that the Giants GM is in his first year as a true General Manager so I'm sure you would agree that it makes sense for him to go the safe route and hire the OC from a prolific offense that he's worked with for the last 3 years.

Oh ok so we’re gonna quibble over semantics now? You are coming up excuses errr reasons why Leftwich should not be a head coach yet ignore that literally dozens and dozens of other coaches with similar questions, (not all of them white btw Romeo Cranell for example wasn’t hindered by working with BB) or even lesser resumes get hired. The bottom line is we do not and can not know what assistants will be good HCs one day.
Might having worked with Brady and Arians help develop a young QB like Trevor Lawrence?

Arguing over “semantics” would imply a play on words. Saying he has an offensive HC and their offense became good when Tom Brady became the QB is not that.
