If they believed it would give them a chance to win more games. True or false? I absolutely do not and can not believe these people whose livelihoods 100 percent depend on wins would rather suffer losses rather than hire a black coach.

Why not suffer losses AND hire a black coach?

The owners livelihoods do not depend on wins. And sounds like some were hiring black coaches to do the losing.

I think you’re vastly overestimating how much most owners care about wins and losses

I don’t think you can say that sort of thing.

The Dolphins deciding to tank has zero to do with their coach at the time being black. It was actually so they could be in position to draft a black QB to lead their team.

Owners make money either way.

Lots and lots of money.

Ok, the GM’s livelihood and the owner’s reputation and money.

That’s not really the problem, ie they won’t hire a guy because he’s black. It’s more complicated. Its what they mean by “systemic racism” though as John Mcworter has pointed out is a terrible name and counter productive because everyone thinks racism is overt, it’s more subconscious bias.

There is no way to sit here and say for sure that Nathan Hackett will be better Head Coach than Byron Leftwich or Eric Bieniemy. Its a preference. In this specific case maybe you could say they want Hackett because he will help them get Rodgers but what if he doesn’t. What makes Brian Daboll a better coaching prospect than Leftwich/EB?

I would like to see the research on the percentage of white and black coaches in football. I assume African American males are 7% of the US population. And how many of these men vs non-black start out as graduate assistants in college or intern jobs in the NFL?

The owners reputation and money also does not depend on wins and losses

The GM yes, and I definitely don’t think they’re purposely keeping people of color out of these jobs. It’s interesting to me that I think 7 GMs are now black but only one coach. I have no idea why that is or if it even means anything

So do you really think a given NFL owner is saying to himself, “yea we could win more games with candidate A(who happens to be black) but I am going to go with candidate B(who is white) “

Leftwich is always brought up.. they had a good offense when the greatest QB of all time joined their team. And BA is an offensive coach himself

Of course not, he’s saying he’s more “comfortable” with candidate B. He may really think candidate B is better but why? Tell me what makes Hackett or Daboll “better” than Leftwich or Bieniemy?

And Hackett didn’t have an all time QB? What about McDaniels why wasn’t working with Brady brought up with him? And why does he get a 2nd job but Raheem Morris does not? There’s always a “reason” and it’s not the guys race but the effect is the same.

Leftwich has been a successful OC with Tom Brady as QB and BA as HC. Any owner/GM would be more “comfortable” with a guy who he thinks will give them the edge to win. Professional sports is about wins and losses, not race. That’s why 70 percent of the league was black even during the 70s/80s

They're billionaires. Their livelihoods definitely does not 100% depend on wins or losses.

Now as a HC on the other hand, their livelihood does depend on that.

General Manager as well. They get canned all the time for hiring an unsuccessful coach
