Guys like Arch and OBJ notwithstanding, Newman usually isn’t really talented compared to the state contenders in their division

That's fair...but I am curious what well coached means to him.

>75% games won?
6 state semifinal appearances?
>25 players to the collegiate level?
>20 years at the same school?


Who do you think Newman is going to get to replicate his career?

I’ll tell you what a coach whose name is very recognized on here that lurks here told me

“He’s won plenty playoff games he shouldn’t have and I can’t think of one playoff loss where he had no business losing”

They were at the goalline for the tying touchdown in the state semifinal last year against the eventual state champion. Nelson was 19-3 the last two years AFTER he lost the number one QB in the country. And they play a lot of teams where they are giving up an average of thirty pounds or more per player in the trenches.
