I understand it was to get below the luxury tax, but in the end to save some money for one season we now handcuffed the team for 4 more years. Brilliant.
I think we did this knowing he would be selling the team.

Hindsight is 20/20. It was far from a universally lauded trade, there was plenty of back and forth about it being a good pick-up/terrible handcuffing killer. I don't think hardly any one qualified it as a "steal" though, even amongst the Hornetards here. I'll give the guy a season with Paul to determine whether it was a complete wipeout.

To Bower's credit, he had that deal done to trade TC for expirings, which would've been great this offseason, but TC failed his physical

Frick Chandler and his bum foot.

Would've been perfectly fine with that deal. It fell through. Fine, but don't just and make a trade to save $2 million this year and blow $30 Million and our freedom for the next 3 years down the road.
People expecting Okafor to get better simply do not seem to realize that he is what we saw this season. That's it. He got better stats in Charlotte because they had no one else and focused around him. End of story.

that's all shinn
and it saved like $7M immediately in total

Really, Bower just did what he was told by Shinn on the cost cutting moves.
The rest of the league and the media seem to love the guy, which has to tell us something.
Anyway, doesn't matter. He's gone. Chouest will be owner soon. Happy days are here again...

Thats assuming Bower wouldnt have blown the money last offseason, though

We would have probably traded for Dalembert.

I would have liked to see what Bower was capable of doing with more resources at his disposal, when the team officially is turned over to Chouest.

I wouldn't. He's an ok GM at best and he's been with the Hornets for 14 years. It's time to get someone in from a winning organization that knows how to build up the basketball ops side of things.

Well, most around the league say he's a good basketball guy. And a lot of people/reports are saying he was basically told what to do by Shinn, in order to save money.

I'm not a Bower hater, but it's time for some new blood from a winning organization. The team needs a culture change and you get that with outsiders not company men.

For me Bower will always be remembered for the Peja deal (the worst contract in sports history) Thank God that he is gone
Posted on 7/14/10 at 11:08 am to TigerinATL
I'm in complete agreement with you. I don't hate Bower, but its a good time to start new. I don't know anything about the guy from SA, but I think that is definitely the model the Hornets need to strive for.

And you guys thought I was kidding about NIH, hendersonshands, DollaChoppa and SFP. They are some ruthless dudes and cut Bower off at the knees.

Hugh Weber is about to be on the Sports Hangover 690am New Orleans if anyone cares.
We all know he won't say anything interesting, but we'll see.
