I don't like this rule one bit. Flag Football coming soon.

The same way other players lose their helmet, it's not on right and he gets hit hard legally or he's running for extra yards with the clock running and gets tackled and it comes off. It's far from impossible. Not every hit on a QB is illegal, even though the rules make it seem like they are.

Fit the helmet and where it properly, that's what it comes down too. Do that and it will rarely be an issue.

I didn't realize there have been a rash of people getting injured after their helmets fell off.
Anybody have an example of this happening?
Is this a case of making a rule for the sake of making a rule?

With less than 1 minute remaining in either half, if the ball carrier's helmet comes off, and that is the only reason the play is being whistled dead, there is also a 10-second runoff. If a team has a timeout remaining, the coach can elect to use the timeout instead of running 10 seconds off the clock. But the player must still leave the field for one play, unless his helmet comes off as the result of a foul.
this is stupid too

Why is this a stupid rule?
It's not, people just complain about anything.

For all those who think this is a "Pussy" rule or a bullshite rule:
Realize this is as a result of all concussions and the liability associated with it. No one can know if a player playing without a helmet is concussed or not. So the safe thing to do is send them off the field for a minimum of one play.
This might also make players buckle up the chinstraps properly. If the helmet is ripped off...there's likely a foul associated with it. And should be called (notice "should"). I've already seen a middle school player lose his helmet in the middle of the field..no one touched him. He was asked to leave for 1 down.
It's not a pussy rule. It's there for player safety. If you think it's a pussy rule..then call the NCAA and ask that everyone go back to leather helmets. I'm sure you'll get a captive audience on that.

Some players wear their helmets too loosely. They can pretty much take the helmets on and off without unbuckling the straps. If these players wore their helmets properly, then this rule wouldn't even be an issue. I hate that the rules seem to be heading towards flag football, but this rule is okay. Like I said, it doesn't even have to be a problem.

The taunting before scoring bullshite that wing got called on last year wasn't called tonight. The entire Boise team went ape shite on the way to the end zone on that pick 6 and it wasn't called.

That's a first....where did the other Boise players get footballs?
You have a video?

So you'll be contacting the LHSAA and NCAA telling this?
I encourage you to do so...and post their response.

Seems like this can be used to the advantage of a team who is ahead in a close game. Manipulate the clock without actual yardage lost especially when the opposing team has 1 or more TO's left.

I quite honestly have watched 4 College Football games already this year..
South Carolina vs Vandy
Tennessee vs NC State
Michigan State vs Boise State
Notre Dame vs Navy
Every single game so far a player has lost a helmet and they've had to explain the rule.

Would hate to be an equipment manager and have to figure out the proper size for an athlete with dreads.

While I first disliked the rule and probably will come to hate it, I realized for the first time in 20 years players might actually attempt to put their helmets on correctly again. When a guy rubs up against you, your helmet shouldn't come off, and now if you don't "lace it up" you get to sit out for a play.
