Here's a serious question. Couldn't Prokhorov just say "frick it" and pay huge luxury taxes for Howard?

If any owner would, it's him.

If I was ATL I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Insert Williams into 4, would be a solid nucleus

are we sure Williams can actually play?

I'm sure the Russian would if he could. somebody pointed out earlier that Lopez is a base year compensation guy on his extension, so even if he signs for say $10/ yr, it may only count about $5mil for trade purposes.

long story short, I don't think the Nets have the assets to get Dwight anymore.

I definitely wouldn't be shocked to see Josh get traded to LA. They have wanted him since he came into the league, according to his dad. they really wanted to draft him

I think Ferry's gonna try to make a play for Dwight (using Horford/ expirings) and pair him with Josh. then in the summer go after CP3.

or at least I hope, lol.

I see no way that happens.

The first year of a new contract is counted differently from the actual salary for trade purposes for this exact reason.

you mean base-level compensation?

if the nets aren't a tax team, they can probably do it, depending on humphries' salary

if lopez is at $12M ($6M base level) and humphries is at $10M, they can almost assuredly get dwight

Something like this

ETA: Probably a pick or 2 going to ATL as well

Terrible trade for the Lakers. Why not just make the deal with the Wolves to get Williams and leave the Hawks out?/

yeah, I forgot Humphries got a pretty big 1 yr deal, so he could get slotted into a big salary next year. and they might not even have to pay him that much, they could split money between him and Green.

I'm guessing that the Magic have already balked at that type of deal straight up, and there'd have to be another team involved to make it work out (ie I don't think the Magic want Lopez at 10+ mil).

gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.
