quote:

"To me it was like, 'Hey, don't give them another opportunity to get settled and to try to make a different call,' right?" said Freeman, who didn't have any timeouts remaining. "Hey, guys, stay off the field. Let's not give them a freebie from the half-yard line and let's try to stop them.

So instead of giving them a freebie, he gave them the win

So the opposite of Tennessee's "let's put 13 on the field to stop Jordan 'Frickin' Jefferson".

I wanted to rail this. If it was the last play, it seems defensible. From where the last play was, a penalty makes for an almost indefensible push play into the end zone.

But two plays in a row where the first play created a stoppage of play? Yikes.

I actually see where he’s coming from. If they are penalized, they move it to the half yard line and Ohio St. does a sure QB sneak and wins. Let it go, maybe they try to throw it. Ohio St. just called the right play. Real question is why they only had 10 on the field in the first place

Exactly the clock was stopped after the incompletion no excuses.

From the 2:30 mark until the end of the game Freeman’s inexperience truly showed.

I am confused...What is the penalty for having 11 players on defense?

Would have been offsides I assume
To run someone on late

But there was an incomplete pass... plenty enough time to run on

Well since it’s his fault already for
Only having 10 guys , I can see this. However the RB that scored
The TD
Just came in on that play.

The end of game coaching decisions across the board yesterday should make everyone laugh at what we are paying coaches nowadays

i wish he would've just said they screwed up. running bothello or whoever could plug in at right end on a goal line stand play should've been automatic after the incomplete pass.

using ten players after a timeout is bad enough. not correcting it after an incomplete pass and doubling down on stupid in the post-game presser makes it all the worse.

Most importantly, where was the 11th player supposed to be? If he was supposed to be on the right side then that's not good.

There is no penalty for having 11 men on the field, I have no clue what a couple of you are talking about.

The final 2 plays were ran with 10 players. Before the 1st play was a timeout. Before the 2nd play was an incomplete pass.

In what world is claiming you knew you had 10 players and intentionally stayed with 10 players after an incomplete pass and non-hurry up situation defensible?

He obviously realized they only had ten on the field after they lined up for the second play. Running another player in to the goal line would have led to an offsides on the defense.

So he realized it when it was too late and would have to run the final 2 plays of the game with 10 players.

Not good.
