A record Paterno achieved in part by overlooking a preponderance of evidence that his most valuable assistant was a blatant child molester.

Probably the greatest record that will ever be recorded by someone who turned a blind eye to raping children. It is an inspiration to us all.

How did Sandusky's molestation help the football team win? Please connect the dots for me.

Use some common sense. With the rumors supposedly dating back to the '80s, why do you think Paterno chose to overlook everything? Hell the police contacted him in 1998 and he still didn't do shite.

(ETA -- He did do shite, sorta. Sandusky retired in '99. Hmmm.)

Sandusky was given credit for the upset NC win over Miami. He was carried off the field. He was the reason why Penn St. was LBU. He was an integral part of Joe Paterno's success at Penn St--more than pretty much anyone else.

Hell, it was even rumored that Sandusky never got a HC job, despite his awesome resume, because there were rumors about his kiddie diddling (see Maryland, 1991).

The games should def be counted but it in no way makes that old bastard less guilty of harboring a pedo.

They swept a fricking shitstorm of child rape under the rug. That is how it helped them win. Recruits had zero idea they were signing up to play for JoePedo. Would it have made a difference? Absolutely. I was a recruited college athlete, and I certainly wouldn't have signed up for playing for such a "leader."

Jesus Christ, exactly. I don't like personal attacks but some of you are fricking clueless. "How did raping children help the football team?" Seriously?! That is your thought process?

Hiding Sandusky's molestation is the only reason Paterno had a job for the final 12 years of his career. I've gone back and forth on whether I think the wins should be vacated or not, but Jesus, man, this is an easy one.

My problem is not giving the wins back. It's the celebration by the university and fans that is sickening. No mention of the victims. All they care about is the record. A true win at any cost mindset.

I still think the program should've been shut down and any state funding pulled.

If the child molestation stuff had come out when it happened he wouldn't have made it to 112.

BS. He would have continued to coach as Sandusky wouldn't have been on staff anyway.

Maybe. Maybe it would have taken him down back in 99 when Jerry was taking a kid fleshlight to a bowl game.

At the very least having a rapist coach would have hurt recruiting enough that their one loss season in the mid 00s never happens.

I hate this ruling, but the secret is out- lawyers are the NCAA'S Kryptonite. SMU should sue.

Matts gets it. I would expect nothing less from an Allman Brothers fan

Guys this was wrong. I wrote the NCAA a letter. While this makes me fume about the USC sanctions, admittedly, it's about the fact children were molested in association with that football program and yes information was overlooked/discarded so why are we rewarding these degenerates?

Said best Sandusky was instrumental in those Ws just as a player would be. He was part of the team.

I agree with this, but Sandusky's child molestation didn't give Penn State any sort of advantage.
