111 wins. Tom Bradley was the Head Coach when PSU beat Ohio State.
And Chicken, the responses in this thread are why I didn't bring up this thread 5 days ago.

Edited for historical accuracy.

Paterno is a piece of shite but taking away the wins also punishes the players from those teams who did nothing wrong.

Does it really punish the players though? They still won the games, on the field. The NCAA erasing them from the record book doesn't change anything that happened back then.

That's my position on it. He's dead, Sandusky is rotting in jail and I don't really care what happens from this point forward.

There's people who were molested by Sandusky that are trying to move forward only to keep seeing crap like this come out. Sorry, but it's a stupid sports record vs. the sanity of these people. They shouldn't have to see decisions like these coming out in favor of Paterno. Leave it alone and let everyone move on.

How many players/coaches need to be guilty of a crime/violation before a program can be held accountable? Coaches should be held to a hire standard than the players.

This is probably the most ridiculous and embarrassing thing the NCAA has ever done.

Good. They should've never been taken away.

That's my take. Good luck on the NCAA enforcing penalties ever again. Remove PSU penalties, check. Give back the wins, check.

The statue will be back in a few years, and nothing to see here.......

NCAA is the biggest farce of regulatory structure you can fathom. Honestly, the government should take notes on how to frick up better.

Exactly. This was to punish Paterno, who turned a blind eye to it to protect himself and his legacy.

I don't see it as too consequential, but I'd slightly rather see them vacated. The root of the problem with the Penn State community was that they took football way too seriously. Taking those wins away from Penn State proved, I thought, that those wins were worthless. I guess I suppose that anyone who puts assigns any weight whatsoever to them takes the game too seriously, and Penn State is the poster child for how such golden calves can damage a community.

Exactly. It was pathetic and sad the PSU still cares so much about these wins. They fought harder for these wins than they did to get Sandusky out. They haven't changed at all, they just care about being relevant in football.

I don't understand this logic. The players aren't in the record books for most all-time wins. How is taking away wins years later punish players from past teams?

Yeah... They should have been. Paterno cared more about his legacy and the program he built than he cared about what was going on. Penn State was his life and he did what he did to protect that image. The only thing that should have been done differently is to strip him of his wins while he was still alive so he could see his prized legacy burn.

This is dumb.
Maybe they shouldn't have stripped the wins initially, but I feel like once you go that route in this situation it looks extremely stupid to come back on your decision...especially this soon.

As they should. It was absolutely retarded to take them away.

All this Sandusky stuff had nothing to do with accomplishments on the field.

Agreed, the NCAA just wanted to show how righteous they were. People should be in prison for what happened, but I never saw how in anyway it was an NCAA violation.

NCAA is trying to void upcoming court case... they do not want to testify under oath and be forced to give full disclosure.

It had nothing to do with eligibility.

What they did was nonsensical and unjust to begin with. The Sandusky mess was always a matter for the criminal justice system, not the NCAA.

Such a fricking bullshite cop-out. It's the very definition of lack of institutional control.

Also - Would your employer discipline you if he found out you were fricking little kids on the company's premises?

Not a perfect analogy, but you get what i'm driving at.
