West Coast baseball has basically completely collapsed

USC left out. Finished 4th in the Pac-12 and left out. Can't imagine that has ever happened.

They clearly looked at RPI and nothing else.

That NC State - UCSB graphic was stunning. RPI in its current format is built for the SEC and ACC.

Smaller schools can take advantage of it if the chips fall right, but those two conferences have the deck stacked in their favor.

What I expect will happen is they’ll implement a new metric that gets more west coast teams in but not at the expense of the big three. At the expense of the Sun Belt, CUSA, AAC and other smaller but solid conferences.

Every system is built for the teams that win the most

Except NC State had a worse record against good teams, which is the entire point.

UCSB also lost 7 games against quad four opponents and NC State lost 0. Not everything is a conspiracy. Maybe UCSB’s resume just wasn’t that good and ESPN can STFU.

Sun Belt is on the verge of becoming a very, very good baseball conference. Already with Coastal, USM, and UL being perennial good, Troy and Texas State have been very good lately. Marshall is building a new stadium and I think JMU or Old Dominion is doing some renovations as well. South Al has been traditionally a regional caliber team but were way down this year, and the two Georgia schools have tremendous athletic potential.

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns into a 4 bid league semi-regularly.

Seems like they used to end up in the Baton Rouge Regional often. Maybe they can turn things around and become a competitive team again.

You can't let Hawaii sweep you in the last series of the season

Didnt see the graphic so dont know what stats they cherry picked, but USCB doesnt look to have a very strong argument.

44% of UCSB's games were played against Q4 teams and they lost 7 games in that quad.

NCST won the same number of Q1 games as UCSB played.

UCSB had #90 SOS to NCST's #21.

NCST didnt have any bad losses. None in Q3 or Q4.

And frankly neither had very many impressive wins at all.

They were just in a regional 2 years ago, but before that it was 2017. I'm thinking Calvi has another year or two before their patience starts to wear thin, especially if the conference starts to leave them behind. 11-19 in the Fun Belt aint gonna cut it for them.

Seeing people online lamenting that a lot of UCI's wins were just outside of the RPI top-50 without acknowledging that if we're giving a little leeway on "top-50" the Cajuns would add 5 more wins vs. Texas State. Cajuns very clearly had a superior resume. UCI had 0 GAMES vs top the 25 RPI, let alone wins. Cajuns went 6-8 vs top 25 including a road win at LSU and 2 neutral site wins vs. Coastal.

Cajuns finished tied for 3rd in the 5th ranked conference and UCI finished 4th in the 10th ranked conference.
