to those he said he should protect the plate. That's protecting the middle of the opposite batter's box.
yea, those people are fricking morons. he would have had to step on the plate to get a good swing on that
that ump was ready to go home

If this happens @ the Box tonight God forbid, that ump won't make it out of there. All those saying the kid was out of line will be the first to throw stones at him!

Not saying the kid was right but these officials are being paid to do a job and should do it right. Throughout the entire tournament there have been inconsistent calls, bad calls as well as delayed calls from the plate. The refs and umps have nothing to lose, they get to come back tomorrow with no consequences.

Just going to restate that the ump did not call the strike immediately. It was a delayed call after the catcher brought the ball back towards the plate.

ETA: still a bullshite call, umps should have made it known it was a walk.
How anyone doesn't get this is beyond me.
Umps are there to call the game, not dictate the game.
BALL 4, WALK! and there is no sliding into 2nd to even put yourself into position to have hand off bag.
Terrible, simply terrible.

Bull shite if steal was on you don't wait for call...stay on bag

Are you kidding me? NO WAY is that anywhere near a called strike.

You're right...Zunino probably intimidated him

I'm not sure if anyone will understand what you are trying to get across, much like the umps on the call yesterday. At least you made some sort of noise though.

Yeah, it was kind of a 'Can I really get away with this? frick it!' delay before he went to his punch out that he practiced in front of the mirror last night.

Problem is, no one know the call. Was it a ball, a strike? That is 100% on the umpire to make the call so everyone knows.
That's what is wrong with these shitty umps, they think they're playing the game. Delayed calls, showboating calls, yelling at coaches and/or players like it's their game. MLB is starting to call these frickers out.

If the steal was on runner goes and goes hard wether it is a ball or a strike....
Base runner doesn't leave bag he is safe, ball four call does not have to be emphatic
If in the umps eyes he came off bag which put him at jeopardy and was tagged = out

Are these umps the regular crews for regular season games? Or do they "reward" crews that do a good job to call the supers and CWS games? I hope it's the former, cause that guy doesn't deserve to call any more post season games.

The pitch didn't end up that far out of the zone....but it was never in it to begin with. Way different than say a 2-seam that runs off the playe. That call was HORRIBLE. To make it worse the ump froze....then decided to end some of those guys' careers. What a horse shite call.

Looked like the ump put his finger in his chest. If so NCAA should review that. Kid had the right to smack his hand off of him at that point.

It was a bad call, yes, but as any one has umpired behind the plate would know, it is a very difficult job.
GTFO with this BS. Being a brain surgeon is a difficult job. An umpire calling balls and strikes at this level should do a better job than that. The kid reacted with emotion and embarrassed himself a little, but that ump should be more ashamed for doing that poor of a job when he's paid to do it, but mostly for further inciting the argument. If he would've just walked off the field, the situation wouldn't have escalated. He's gotto be the bigger man. Imagine if football refs reacted like that to coaches who were yelling at them.
