NBA Tampering

What is the deal with NBA Tampering? Is it even enforced? I thought NBA teams couldn’t talk to other teams’ players until June 30 6pm. How is possible for Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, and others to already have mutual agreements to possibly sign with those teams?

Ryen Russillo said it best. The only teams that cry about tampering are the teams that feel they've been aggrieved.

It’s just agents doing their job.

I like Ryen, but that was kinda a “no shite” statement that he made on the pod. Why would a team that is getting the benefit of tampering care?

NBA fined Magic Johnson $50k for violating the league’s tampering rules for saying this:
quote:
"Oh yeah," Johnson told ESPN when asked whether he saw parallels between Antetokounmpo's play and his. "With his ball-handling skills and his passing ability. He plays above the rim; I never could do that. But in his understanding of the game, his basketball IQ, his creativity of shots for his teammates ... that's where we [have the] same thing. Can bring it down, make a pass, make a play.
"I'm just happy he's starting in the All-Star Game because he deserves that. And he's going to be like an MVP, a champion. This dude, he's going to put Milwaukee on the map. And I think he's going to bring them a championship one day."
The Bucks were so outraged by this “tampering” that they sent out an Instagram post highlighting and praising Magic's comments immediately after

It seems to me that tampering rules are enforced throughout the season... but when free agency time rolls around, it’s not enforced at all.
Which isn’t really a big deal. I mean, who cares if the signing period hasn’t officially opened yet? The season is over.

Agents are allowed to talk to whoever they want. It’s just the players can’t talk directly with other teams management.

Management cannot talk about players either.
So if a team’s front office is making deals with the agent of a player who is still under contract with another team, that’s tampering.

Bingo.

No bingo. That’s not allowed either. A team is not allowed to talk to an agent about a player under contract with another team.

I mean I think this is a rule that’s selectively not enforced this time of year. As another poster said it doesn’t really matter the season is over.
