re: NBA releases Top 15 coaches of all time list ETA: Jesus Christ it’s not a numerical list.

Larry Bird coached all of three years.
Adelman is right there with Sloan. And he coached multiple championship-contending teams.
Carlisle deserves consideration for turning around Detroit and taking them to the conference finals, taking the Pacers to the next level and winning 60+ games, and the Mavs’ run against the odds in 2011.

The NBA has been around for 75 years. Only 35 coaches have won a championship.

In terms of historically though? Without the Big 3 it's really just the run in the bubble.
Doc Rivers was a sub .500 coach for his first 8 years before being handed Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. He only managed 1 championship with that group. And he’s had at least 2 all star caliber players on every team since. He only has 1 other finals appearance as well.
In what world is he a top 15 coach in nba history?

Bosh’s blood clot ruined the post LeBron they had a decent little roster that could’ve at least got the ECF

No, that's ridiculous

Probably the worst coach when it comes to minutes, Bird and McHale played ungodly minutes for years and it prematurely ended their primes and careers, OVERRATED. Dude was a flop with the Sonics.

Doc
Only one title with one of the great Big 3s ever still in their respective primes

Steve Kerr
Luke Walton accomplished an incredible interim record during the 73-9 season and Mike Brown in the 2017 playoffs when Kerr was absent nursing his back, incredibly expendable

Don't think Doc's a lock by any means.
They were old and got beat by a better Lakers team to lose their 2nd title. Them only getting one isn't a choke IMO.
To be fair, he had maybe the most snakebit HOFer since Jerry West(CP3) and the most flawed all-NBA player maybe ever(Ben Simmons).

Agreed Spo only won because of the Big 3 and Shaq, Daly deserves to be on list 2x NBA champ and Olympic gold medal ?? coach

Doc Rivers but no Rudy T?

That lakers team was at least as old, probably older.

It’s certainly not worthy of top 15 coach of all time.

He hasn’t reach the conference finals once since leaving Boston despite having one of the most talented rosters in the league every year.
Rivers is undoubtedly the worst and least deserving coach on that list.

Shaq was Riley.

Bill Fitch had 944 wins, 11th All Time
He should probably be on the list somewhere. His % isn't as good because he had shite to work with early and late in his career, he coached the Clippers at the end, but if he hadn't quit the Celtics he would be seen as an all time great.

Any list not having Phil as #1 is a troll

Chuck Daly
- 2 NBA championships
- only missed playoffs twice (and the first year shouldn't count)

I edited my post long before you posted. Daly is on there.
Spo wasn’t Shaq’s coach.

Kerr? Really?
I’d say benching David Lee to unlock the Death Lineup is one of the greatest moves of all time.

When I say old, I mean those few years was it for them. They weren't going on an extended 5-6 yr run as a team.

Not at all. That Celtics team getting to and nearly winning the Finals was a bit of a surprise, especially with the younger Magic and Cavs emerging. Many people thought the Celts' fairly tight window closed after 2009.
Them nearly beating the Heat in 2012 was really something.

I can get down with this. Pop coached the most beautiful team offense on an NBA Title team I've ever seen. They absolutely destroyed a really good Heat team.

When Larry Bird got inducted into the Basketball HOF he chose Bill Fitch to be up there with him...and Fitch only coached Bird for 3 years.

Billy Cunningham should be considered.
2nd in regukar season winning % .698
9th in playoff winning % .629
520 wins (including playoffs)
3 eastern Conference Champ
1 NBA Champ
Only coaching for 8 years works against him
