This Mavs team would have been eliminated in the first round if they played anyone else.

One rim protector would change the team...but since there's nobody down there capable of anything, Phoenix can get to the rim at will with literally anybody unless Dallas packs the paint completely...then they've got the shooters to kill you. Luka has dragged this team to the playoffs. Take Luka away, and they're a lottery team.

Take away Booker, Ayton, or Paul, and the Suns are still a 1-5 seed.

Credit to Luka for getting the Mavs to this point, he's amazing, but that roster is nowhere near good enough to actually contend in the west.

If Brunson isn't having an out of body experience, then there's nobody on that roster that even mildly scares teams.

4 years into his career and its Luka and a bunch of 7-8 men.

Yeah, Luka really doesn’t have much help on that team. If you lined up the Mavs and Suns and had to draft players, you’d take Luka first and then at least 4 Suns players before you got to the Mavs’ second.

Yep...put it like this...not one Maverick not named Luka would start for Phoenix. Not one. None of the Mavs bench players would even see the Suns 1-8 rotation.

Luka 13/22 for 35/5/7 - Possibly injured, getting beat to hell, iso'd on defense every trip, and having to do it all on his own offensively. I'm a Mavs fan, and I won't be mad at Luka for carrying his arse elsewhere if Dallas doesn't get him some serious help, quick. Like this offseason.

Brunson 3/12 for 9/5/2 - terrible for your "second best player". 2 terrible games in a row.
Bullock 5/9 16/4/0 - good night for Bullock. He has to do that nightly.
Finney Smith 1/2 for 2/1/1 - complete non factor
Powell - 1/2 for 4/0/0 - non factor again. Dude got outplayed by Ayton, McGee, and fricking Bismarck Biyombo all in the same night.
Kleber 3/6 for 9/3/1 - came back down to earth.
Bertans 3/7 for 9/2/2
Dinwiddie 3/10 for 11/1/2

Rest of bench 4/9 for 14/4/4 in garbage time.

“Wearin someone else’s jersey, pony tail on top of your head”

“Grown men do not wear jerseys”

frick off inside. Fashion is as much a part of the game as the game itself

ESPN would make a 4 part 30 for 30 on the Pelicans' incompetence if they put a roster around Zion as bad as what Dallas has given Luka.

Nice game plan by monty and his staff. don’t double or send help to Luka. Let him wear himself out scoring and don’t allow the teammates to get going. Then go at him in the second half. Luka lost the game on the defensive end. I can’t recall anyone being taken advantage of so many times. If they didn’t rely so much on him on the offensive end, he would be unplayable.

The Suns went 10/18 shooting against Luka in Game 1 when he was the primary defender.

In Game 2, the Suns did this:

This is bananas.

The Suns went after Luka 50 times as the screen defender FIFTY and scored a casual 1.72 points per chance.

Wow.

That is just silly

Btw - I have to give a lot of credit to Cam Johnson. Hes getting repeatedly switched onto Luka, and hes losing a lot of the time, but it takes a lot for a defender to willingly take that matchup, and be as physical as you can every single time. He finally got back at Luka a few times in the 2nd half, including a steal when Luka bodied him and he fell on the ground, and he got his hands on the ball.

The heat ran him into screens to get the ball handler switched onto a lesser defender. Which is the polar opposite of what we saw last night in PHX.

Luka's not the best defender but he was limping pre-game from a thigh bruise he suffered in game 1.

I thought it was interesting that Kidd had Brunson as the primary ball handler early in the game. It could have been to change things up offensively but it also could have been a test period to see how Luka was dealing with the injury before he started dominating the ball and driving again.
