I think it was already 100% expected for him to opt out. Another 1+1 if he wants to stay.

And they picked Anthony fricking Bennett #1 overall.

For sure. If he was going to opt in, it would be due to a trade. Opting out was the clear option, but I don't think he can opt out, look at his options, and determine that Cleveland is the best choice. Unless Cleveland somehow lands Kawhi in a trade.
That roster is trash if you take LeBron away from it.

Gilbert had his team back a few years ago and they were picking in the top 5 for four straight years.
And what a job he did. Waiters and Bennett.

I can't wait to roster JR Smith on Fanduel next year though. He'll be a fantasy gold mine.

Ramona Shelburne ? @ramonashelburne To clarify for everyone again. LBJ did not opt-out. He didn’t have to. He could have let the deadline pass tonight without doing or saying anything and he’d be a FA. He had a player option to opt-in, which he declined to exercise.

David Aldridge @daldridgetnt James’s decision to opt out makes a potential trade with the Rockets less likely. It helps the Lakers, who would like to use their existing assets to make a Kawhi Leonard trade, and use their cap space to make James a max contract offer

ESPN Stats & Info ? @ESPNStatsInfo LeBron's first year max salary for 2018-19 is now $35.4M based on the projected $101M cap (would have been $35.6M if he opted in). Cleveland can still offer him a 5-year, $205M deal ($41M per year) while other teams can offer 4 years, $152M ($38M per year).

FWIW, a few LeBron Scenarios
(based on a $101M league cap)
Max w/ CLE: 5 yrs, $205M
New Team Max: 4 yrs, $152M
Max 1+1 w/CLE: $35.3M/$38.1M
New Team 1+1: $35.3M/$37.1M

Not surprised by the LeBron decision. The impact is that a sign and trade (see Houston) would likely be off the table because of the hard cap and the pool of teams now shrink to a possible 3.....Cleveland, LA Lakers and Philadelphia.

Depends on his options.
I think the Cavs are a clearly a better option right now than the Lakers. Of course, if LA adds George or Leonard, they are clearly a better option.
Sixers are actually his best option as things stand today. But I don’t think they are seriously being considreed.

Cavs will match any offer for Hood
Also Zach LaVine is about to get a Major Bag
quote:
a source told Sporting News that the Cavs still intend to keep Hood, who is said to be a fallback option for the Bulls should their negotiations with shooting guard Zach LaVine fall apart. If Hood, who is only 25 and was averaging 16.8 points before the trade to Cleveland, gets an offer from Chicago or anyone, the Cavaliers will match.
Also Zach LaVine is about to get a Major Bag
