Hardwn grade out ‘above average’ defensively on metrics. And eye test also tells you he is not hurting his squad out there on D. The James don’t defend take is three years old it would be like if lebron shoot 40% from three for three years you would still have people saying he can’t shoot the three. Lazy narratives are lazy. But an easy way to distinguish knowledgable v casual fans.

Here are kyrie, dame, and garden's shooting percentages from each part of the court and the league average for last season:

At the Basket

Kyrie: 64.9
Dame: 55.2
Harden: 65.8
League: 65.8

3-10 feet

Kyrie: 43.6
Dame: 45.2
Harden: 35.1
League: 39.4

10-16 feet

Kyrie: 47.9
Dame: 42.9
Harden: 43.7
League: 41.5

16- 3 point

Kyrie: 54.9
Dame: 47.3
Harden: 36.8
League: 40.0

3 point

Kyrie: 40.8
Dame: 36.1
Harden: 36.7
League: 36.2

Pretty clear that Kyrie is the best shooter of the three. Harden is better at the basket than Lilliard but between there and the 3 point line, it's all Lilliard.

As for defense, all 3 are bad, but Harden routinely embarrasses himself. His passing puts him slightly ahead of them, but no team with any of those 3 as the number one is winning anything without a ridiculous supporting cast.

LINK

Hardwn grade out as a solid B defender. Which according to the link is the 75-95th percentile. which is more than solid. Especially for a guy who carry the load and is as efficient offensively as nearly anyone the league has ever seen.

I am big picture bubba. We look at everything you are likely focusing on a handful of possessions.

TS%:

Harden: 61.9%
Irving: 61.0%
Lillard: 59.5%

PPG:

Harden: 30.4
Irving: 24.4
Lillard: 26.9

You also talked about assists saying the only reason Harden has better assist numbers is because D'Antoni's PG's always have high assist numbers. But you completely ignore the fact that Harden averaged 7.5 assists his last season with Kevin McHale as the coach... which is more assists than Irving or Lillard have ever averaged.

Harden is also a better defender than Lillard or Irving. Your post about Harden getting "embarrassed" on defense is outdated by about 3 years. He is also elite in one aspect of defense... and that is post defense. Harden routinely guards post players and is highly effective. He's one of the best in the league at post defense. And not just for his position... but as a post defender at ANY position.

TS% factors in FT% which I've already complimented him on, now let's use EGG which only measures shots from the field:

Kyrie: 56.8%
Dame: 50.1%
Harden: 54.2%

Harden took two shots per game more than Kyrie did and took 6 more free throws as well.

And Kyrie played half of his career with LeBron, no one averages 7 assists per game playing with LeBron. I also said that Harden is clearly the best passer of the 3, so I don't know why you are arguing against something I didn't even say. His numbers are still inflated in Antonio's system.

Exactly how many times did Harden defend against shots in the post each game? 2 maybe 3 times? And he's so bad on the perimeter they have to hide him down in the post. Says a lot about his defense.

Harden is one of the most inefficient players in nba playoff history. Not only that, he also uses a ton of possessions at an inefficient rate. I’d argue that he might be the worst offensive player in nba playoff history. He’s pretty much the Peyton Manning of the nba, but without the rings.

Are free throws not a part of scoring now?

So we know Harden is a better scorer, better passer, and everyone in the world except for you knows Harden is a better defender than those 2. How exactly are they equal?

That never ever happens with Lillard or Kyrie, they never have to hide on defense, right?

And now we've gone off the deep end in the other direction. This thread has reached MSB completion.

Hardwn’s playoff PER with CC is in excess of 23. Which according to the definition of PER puts him somewhere between ‘definite all star” and “weak MVP candidate”. Oh and he is the most efficient ISO scorer ever from the data that we have available to us. There was no tracking ISO possession prior to 15 years ago. But with the data w have hardwn is #1.

That is exactly the phrase that went through my mind watching Harden vs the Warriors.
