Thunder, including Nerlens Noel’s 2-year, $3.5M minimum salary (with a 2019-20 player option), now has at least $158M committed to 12 players. It will rise to at least $159M to 14 players without further action. Repeater taxes on that: $147M. Total salary obligations: $307M.

Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42 This is how punitive the repeater tax is. The cost of Nerlens Noel on a $1.7M contract costs OKC an extra $10M in luxury tax. Thunder certainly can shed/waive contracts to create savings.

that's because you don't pay attention.

The Thunder might literally pay a half-billion dollars this year.

That is insane. There's no way a team like OKC can afford that tax bill for more than a year or two.

Adam Kaufman @AdamMKaufman Nerlens Noel will make $3.5 million over two years with the #Thunder. Last year, he turned down a four-year, $70M offer from the #Mavericks.

$307 million? Oh my. Seems OKC is overcompensating for allowing Harden to walk over a few million dollars.

Dumb to know you're injury prone and to still turn it down.
God damn his agent was an idiot.

Harden didn't want him, he is the franchise player. End of story.

I get the feeling he'll be a Laker by the end of the offseason...

I think it depends if he's traded somewhere and then bought out. If that's the case, then yes, I'd imagine he would. I wouldn't shock me to see him traded somewhere like Atlanta or Chicago with cap space and then bought out. They'd get a pick for their trouble and would save OKC a bunch in tax payment.

I can’t exactly remember now but I think I saw on twitter yesterday stretching Melo would save the Thunder like 80-90 mill.

I want absolutely nothing to do with Carmelo

I think Carmelo is gone.
